An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced legal leaders to join a highly regarded government organisation during a significant period of transformation and growth.
These newly created leadership roles will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a large legal function. Leading multidisciplinary teams of legal professionals and grants specialists, you will oversee the assessment and administration of funding applications while driving strategic initiatives that support service delivery, legislative reform and organisational transformation.
This is far more than a traditional people leadership role. Joining during a period of significant change, you will help implement a new operating model, build and develop teams, influence policy and process improvements, and contribute to reform initiatives that will shape the future direction of the function.

Your new role
You will play a key leadership role in a growing function responsible for delivering legal assistance services within a complex regulatory environment. Working closely with senior leaders, you will help drive operational excellence, develop capability across the team and contribute to the delivery of significant strategic projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
- Driving strategic projects focused on operational improvement, policy implementation and service delivery.
- Providing expert legal and strategic advice to senior stakeholders.
- Overseeing governance, risk management and funding administration frameworks.
- Building strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting change initiatives, workforce planning and capability uplift programmes.
About you You will be an experienced legal professional with a strong leadership background and a genuine interest in building teams, improving processes and leading change.
You may be:
- A legal manager or practice leader from government, regulatory or private practice environments.
- A senior lawyer with demonstrated experience leading people, projects or operational functions.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading and developing teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- The ability to balance strategic priorities with operational delivery.
- Strong commercial judgement and problem-solving capability.
- Experience gained in workers' compensation is required for one of the available opportunities
- Experience leading legal teams in a public sector setting will be highly regarded
- Candidates with solid project management or change management experience will also be highly regarded
- Admission as a legal practitioner in Australia and a current practising certificate.
