Do you want to help carry forward a legacy of supporting women and children in rural NSW? The Womens Shelter Armidale Inc (WSA) began with local women who saw a need and acted. That community commitment continues today through specialist homelessness and domestic and family violence services connecting women, children, and young people with safety, housing, health, and practical support.

We are seeking Board members who bring sound judgement, relevant skills, and a commitment to making safety and support more accessible in rural and regional NSW.

This is an opportunity to put your experience to work: helping guide WSA’s future, strengthen its financial sustainability, and make considered decisions about its growth. Your contribution can help ensure this work continues for the women and children who will need it next.

Skills we are seeking

We are particularly interested in people with experience in one or more of these areas:

- Governance and Board Secretary responsibilities: effective Board processes, policy oversight, accountability, and transparent decision-making. We particularly welcome interest from candidates willing to be considered for the Secretary role.
- Finance, audit, and risk: financial reporting, internal controls, funding obligations, and long-term financial sustainability.
- Housing, property, and asset planning: community housing, property development, asset oversight, or assessing accommodation and capital investment opportunities.
- Medical services and clinical governance: knowledge of primary healthcare, medical clinic operations, patient safety, accreditation, and healthcare funding.
- Income diversification and partnerships: philanthropy, fundraising strategy, business development, or social enterprise, with the judgement to assess opportunities against WSA’s purpose and capacity.




- Digital governance and information security: oversight of privacy, cyber risk, and the safe use of technology in services handling sensitive information.

You do not need expertise in every area. We are seeking complementary skills across the Board. Lived experience of domestic and family violence, homelessness, or navigating support services would be highly valued as an additional strength.

What the role involves

The Board sets strategic direction, oversees performance, finance, risk, and compliance, and supports and holds the CEO accountable. The CEO leads the organisation and makes operational decisions within delegation. Board members are expected to prepare for and attend monthly meetings, participate in strategic discussions and relevant committee work, maintain confidentiality, and declare and manage conflicts of interest. Induction and governance development are provided.

We value people who listen carefully, ask informed questions, challenge constructively, and act in WSA’s best interests. A commitment to the safety, dignity, and self-determination of victim-survivors, and an understanding of regional barriers to support, are central to the role.
