About The Assignment Our client is a global leader specialising in underground ventilation systems for mining, tunnelling, and heavy infrastructure. They design and manufacture heavy-duty industrial ventilation equipment, ducting, and structural support systems used across underground mines and major civil works.

About The Role We are seeking an experienced Boilermaker / Welder for an immediate 3-week casual assignment in a busy Perth workshop. This role involves fabricating, assembling, and welding heavy structural components, custom plate work, and specialized industrial ventilation equipment for major WA mining, resources, and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

- Fabrication & Assembly: Mark out, cut, shape, and fit heavy steel plate, structural section profiles, and tubular components according to engineering shop drawings.
- Welding: Perform high-quality GTAW (TIG) welds adhering strictly to AS/NZS 1554.1 structural standards.
- Workshop Machinery: Safely operate workshop equipment
- Quality & Safety: Conduct pre-weld setup, joint prep, and post-weld inspection to meet strict QA/QC tolerances while maintaining safety standards.

KEY FABRICATION SCOPES

- Fan Housing & Impeller Assemblies: Rolling, fitting, and fabricating heavy-gauge cylindrical steel casings for large primary axial and centrifugal mine ventilation fans.
- Silencers & Attenuators: Assembling structural frames and sheet metal/plate outer shells fitted with internal sound-dampening baffles.
- Ducting & Transition Pieces: Fabricating steel ventilation ducting, elbows, bifurcations, dampers, and custom transformation pieces (e.g., round-to-square transitions).




- Skid Frames & Mounting Structures: Building heavy structural steel skids, transport frames, hanging brackets, and overhead gantry supports.

PRIMARY WELDING PROCESSES & MATERIALS

- GTAW (TIG): Used for precise root passes or stainless-steel components where high cosmetic and structural integrity is required.
- Materials Used: Carbon steel (mild steel plate up to heavy structural thicknesses), stainless steel (for corrosive mine environments), and wear-resistant/high-tensile steels.

REQUIREMENTS

- Australian Trade Qualification (Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade / Boilermaker)
- Demonstrated experience in fabricating carbon, alloy and stainless steels
- High proficiency in GTAW (TIG) welding across all positions
- Ability to interpret complex technical engineering drawings and ISO welding symbols
