- $102,936 pa – $113,579 per annum, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
About the role: The Building Maintenance Carpenter undertakes skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair, installation, remodelling and alteration of building structures and facilities across NSW Parliament House. The role performs a variety of skilled maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repair activities in both modern and heritage-listed buildings, conducts condition assessments, identifies maintenance requirements and carries out preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facilities remain safe, functional and fit for purpose.

Based in NSW Parliament, the Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is a specialist service department working to support the operation of the Parliament of NSW by providing logistical support and advice to members, the Departments of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly and the people of New South Wales. About you: It is important to possess a strong knowledge base regarding construction and maintenance of both modern and heritage building components and be conversant with and have a good working knowledge of relevant standards and codes such as the Building Code of Australia. A sound knowledge of WHS issues and the adoption of safe working practices is essential. A Sound knowledge of the tools, techniques and terminology associated with the carpentry trade.
You must have practical skills in the installation, maintenance, repair and modification of building components and proficiency in the use of a range of hand/power tools and machines.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve faults such as tracing out the source of leaks in membranes. Demonstrated carpentry and joinery skills across a diverse range of maintenance, repair and refurbishment activities and be adaptable and act with tact and diplomacy in dealing with people whilst working in other areas and carrying out work in a professional manner. A demonstrated ability to exercise judgement in identifying projects and maintenance issues that require specialist support or contractor involvement.
Essential requirements
- Minimum 5 years of post-trade experience in carpentry, joinery and building maintenance, including demonstrated experience in working with heritage buildings.
- Tertiary Trade Certified in Carpentry and Joinery or relevant building related trade.
- Current Certificate of competency and relevant current licenses for this trade where applicable.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be familiar with the methods, practices; principles, tools and equipment used in carpentry work in both modern and heritage buildings, as well as have knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation and regulations. Describe your knowledge and experience in each of these areas.
