About the role

Loumac Constructions is seeking a practical, detail-focused Building Estimator / Draftsperson who can turn plans into accurate take-offs, complete estimates and clear drawings that procurement and site teams can confidently work from. Working across major government and infrastructure projects, you will detail and estimate awnings, decks, sheds and associated light structural works, with opportunities to contribute to wider building projects. This role involves understanding how things actually get built and taking ownership from initial take-off through procurement, fabrication and construction.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare accurate, itemised material take-offs and detailed cost estimates from plans and specifications, checking dimensions, fixings, stock lengths, cutting allowances and wastage
- Estimate the complete cost of the work, including materials, labour, plant, access, freight, cranage and associated project requirements
- Produce practical, dimensioned 2D drawings, construction details, material schedules and cutting lists, considering constructability, material optimisation and installation methods
- Review supplier quotations, compare scope and pricing, identify exclusions and discrepancies, and raise missing information rather than make unsupported assumptions
- Coordinate procurement requirements, supplier information and staged deliveries, providing clear, complete handovers to procurement, project management and site teams
- Check work, manage revisions and keep drawings, estimates and schedules aligned, liaising professionally with suppliers, consultants, clients and project teams

About you





- At least two years' hands-on experience in both estimating and drafting awnings and decks, or closely related light structural works
- The ability to independently prepare and explain your own take-offs, estimates and drawings, including the quantities, assumptions and checks behind them
- Practical knowledge of construction materials, fixings, installation methods and sequencing, with the ability to spot issues before they become problems on site
- Confidence using AutoCAD or equivalent, Excel and digital take-off or PDF measurement software
- Strong numerical skills, attention to detail, clear communication and a proactive approach to ownership, deadlines and problem-solving
- A trade, building, estimating, drafting or engineering qualification will be well regarded. Practical experience, demonstrated capability and attitude are equally important

About us Loumac Constructions is a growing construction business working across significant infrastructure projects. You will work closely with the people building the projects and have the opportunity to develop across diverse building works. Your drawings and estimates will move from plans through procurement and fabrication to on-site construction.

As part of the interview process, shortlisted applicants will complete a brief, supervised mock estimate and 2D drawing using a supplied sample awning or deck project.

The exercise will include a material take-off, key cost allowances and a clear, dimensioned drawing. You will be asked to explain your quantities, assumptions and accuracy checks. This is a demonstration of your own skills, not work on a live client project.
