About the Role
My Emergency Doctor / Connected Medical Solutions (CMS) is establishing and moving into virtual allied health and specialist services. We're looking for a commercially driven Business Development Manager to help build this new business line from the ground up, creating and converting a national pipeline across allied health providers, medical specialists, referrer networks, insurers and government-funded programs.
This is a market-building role as much as a sales role. You'll understand the allied health and specialist services landscape, including how services are funded, referred and delivered across MBS, private health insurance, NDIS, DVA, workers' compensation and CTP schemes, and create opportunities where no mature pipeline currently exists. You'll engage credibly with allied health executives, specialist practice principals, hospital and health service leaders, clinical governance teams, PHNs, insurers and public sector stakeholders, while running a disciplined pipeline that converts into contracted revenue.
Initially, the role will leverage our strong existing B2B customer base, extending established relationships across aged care, primary care, hospitals, PHNs, insurers and government-funded programs into new virtual allied health and specialist offerings. Over the longer term, and where appropriate, you will help shape and launch B2C services that take our virtual allied health and specialist capability directly to consumers, opening up a complementary growth pathway alongside our B2B channel.
Key Responsibilities
Build and Manage the Pipeline
- Identify, qualify and develop opportunities across allied health providers (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, dietetics, exercise physiology, podiatry, social work), specialist practices and groups, private hospitals, day hospitals, PHNs, insurers (private health, workers' compensation, CTP, DVA), NDIS providers and community health services.
- Maintain a clear pipeline of priority accounts, capturing opportunity size, decision-makers, stage, probability and next actions in Salesforce or a comparable CRM.
- Convert qualified opportunities into pilots, proposals, tenders, negotiations and contracted services.
Develop the Market
- Map priority markets where CMS adds value through virtual allied health and specialist services, including workforce shortages, geographic and after-hours access gaps, wait-list pressure, demand for tele-consultation, multi-disciplinary care coordination and virtual specialist input into complex care.
- Position CMS services (virtual allied health consultations, virtual specialist reviews, multi-disciplinary team support, triage and assessment, second opinions and shared-care models)
with allied health and specialist partners.
- Build partnerships with PHNs, allied health peak bodies, specialist colleges, insurers and government-funded programs to support market entry.
- Feed market insights back to Growth, Marketing, Clinical and Operations to sharpen service design, pricing and messaging.
Sell Commercial and Clinical Solutions
- Engage senior decision-makers, including CEOs, COOs, CFOs, practice principals, clinical directors, allied health managers, insurer leadership, PHN executives and public health leaders.
- Develop tailored proposals and commercial models reflecting each organisation's clinical needs, funding workplace and strategic priorities.
- Articulate the value of CMS, including better access to allied health and specialist expertise, reduced wait times, improved patient outcomes and stronger multi-disciplinary care.
- Support tenders, procurement processes and government-funded program opportunities.
Support Implementation and Growth
- Work with Clinical and Operations to ensure sales commitments are deliverable, and support a smooth handover to implementation.
- Capture client feedback and market intelligence to improve CMS's offering.
- Represent CMS at allied health, specialist, PHN and public sector forums.
Essential Experience
- Proven business development, consulting, partnerships or commercial experience in allied health, specialist services and/or healthcare, ideally underpinned by a clinical background in allied health or paramedicine.
- Strong understanding of the Australian allied health and specialist services landscape, including private practice, MBS, private health insurance, NDIS, DVA, workers' compensation and CTP, PHNs, public health, clinical governance, referral flows, workforce and funding pressures.
- Track record building a qualified pipeline in markets requiring education, relationship-building and long sales cycles.
- Experience engaging senior stakeholders in healthcare, allied health, specialist practice, insurers or government-funded services.
- Strong commercial acumen, with proposals, business cases and financial arguments that resonate with executives and funders.
- Ability to translate clinical service models into clear commercial propositions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including proposals, presentations and tenders.
- Disciplined pipeline management, with focus on activity,
conversion and forecasting.
- Willingness to travel nationally.
Highly Desirable
- Direct allied health or specialist services experience (private practice, hospital-based, group practice, clinical governance, service redesign).
- Experience in healthcare consulting, virtual care, telehealth, digital health, urgent care or clinical workforce models.
- Existing relationships across allied health providers, specialist practices, PHNs, insurers, public health services or peak bodies.
- Understanding of MBS items, private health insurer contracting, NDIS, DVA, workers' compensation and CTP schemes, PHN commissioning and tender processes.
- Clinical background in allied health or paramedicine (highly preferred), or in nursing or health management.
- Salesforce or comparable CRM experience.
Personal Attributes
Credible with clinical and executive stakeholders alike; commercially driven; strategic but hands-on; consultative; resilient with long sales cycles; collaborative across teams; disciplined in pipeline management; curious about sector trends.
Above all, this role suits someone who can think outside the box and work shoulder-to-shoulder with potential clients to connect the dots where service gaps currently prevail. You'll be energised by unstructured problems, comfortable co-designing solutions in the room with clinical and operational leaders, and able to see how virtual allied health and specialist capability can close access, workforce and continuity-of-care gaps that clients may not yet have fully articulated themselves.
What Success Looks Like
First 6 Months
- A clear market map of priority opportunities across allied health and specialist services segments.
- An active national pipeline with named accounts, decision-makers and next actions.
- Relationships established with priority allied health providers, specialist groups, PHNs, insurers and public health services.
- Two to three opportunities progressed to proposal, pilot, tender or negotiation.
- Meaningful input into CMS's allied health and specialist services messaging and positioning.
First 12 Months
- Contracted revenue delivered against target, primarily via the existing B2B customer base.
- At least one anchor opportunity converted in allied health, and one in specialist services.
- Strong pipeline supporting future-year growth.
- Established market presence across allied health and specialist channels.
- A validated view of the longer-term B2C opportunity, with a recommended pathway (and where appropriate an initial pilot) to extend virtual allied health and specialist services directly to consumers.
- Reliable CRM discipline and forecasting that gives leadership confidence.
