Café Chef – Full Time

About the role
Bar Bellaccino is a busy, established café in Sydney CBD. We are looking for an experienced, reliable and passionate Café Chef to join our team. This is a hands-on position for a chef who enjoys a busy café environment, takes pride in producing high-quality food, and has the creativity and initiative to develop and introduce seasonal menu items.
The role would suit a hospitality professional looking for a daytime-focused position and better work-life balance, without compromising on food quality or professional standards.
About You The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a chef in a busy café or similar food-focused environment.
- Strong experience in high-volume, food-oriented hospitality operations.
- Excellent cooking skills with a strong understanding of food quality, consistency and presentation.
- Food innovation and menu development skills, with the ability to develop, test and roll out new seasonal menu items.
- Creativity and a genuine interest in keeping the menu fresh, relevant and appealing to customers.
- Strong understanding of food preparation, portion control and kitchen organisation.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining consistently high standards.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly in food presentation and plating.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of kitchen operations.
- Full Australian working rights.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood & Menu Development
- Prepare and cook food to consistently high standards during busy service periods.
- Maintain excellent food quality, consistency, portion control and presentation.
- Develop and recommend recent dishes and seasonal menu items.
- Test, refine and successfully roll out seasonal menu changes.
- Work with management to improve the café's food offering and customer experience.
- Ensure recipes, preparation methods and presentation standards are consistently followed.
Kitchen Operations
- Complete mise en place and prepare stock items according to established recipes and standards.
- Portion stock appropriately to maintain freshness, minimise waste and ensure speed of service.
- Monitor stock levels and advise management of shortages of prepared and unprepared goods.
- Assist with ordering appropriate quantities based on expected service volumes.
- Maintain an efficient and organised kitchen workflow throughout service.
- Take orders and assist with table service when required.
- Ensure meals are served with a high standard of attention to detail and consistency.
- Work closely with the café team to ensure smooth daily operations.
Kitchen Cleanliness & Standards
- Clean and reset the kitchen thoroughly after every shift.
- Maintain a consistently clean, orderly and organised kitchen throughout the day.
- Clean and sanitise workstations, equipment and food preparation areas.
- Clear, pack and appropriately store food after service.
- Restock the kitchen ready for the following service.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and workplace cleanliness.
- Ensure all kitchen areas are left clean and ready for the next shift.
What We Offer
- Full-time position in an established Sydney CBD café.
- Daytime-focused working hours with no traditional late-night restaurant shifts.
- Work hours 5:30am to 1:30pm weekdays.
- Salary: $78,000–$85,000 per annum + KPI incentives, depending on experience and ability.
