Who we are

Women’s Community Shelters is a network of ten shelters for homeless women with or without children across NSW. We are recruiting for a case worker to join our team in the Cumberland LGA. Parramatta Women’s Shelter is a crisis accommodation service for women with or without dependent children, who are experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence or family violence.

About the role The Core & Cluster model allows for the expansion of Parramatta Women's Shelter. The shelter provides crucial supported accommodation services to women, with or without children who are at risk of homelessness and have experienced domestic and family violence. Our team provides skilled case management while families stay with us in crisis accommodation or rapid rehousing.

We have an opportunity available (fixed term contract until 30th June 2027) to join us in this exciting program that offers independent living to every family.

Key responsibilities

- Provide skilled case management to women with or without children in crisis accommodation or rapid rehousing

- Support clients with client-centric and trauma-informed case management

- Assist clients to secure more permanent housing options

- Support clients to pursue other support goals, such as studying, re-training, legal, employment, financial, family, and recreational

- Work an on-call roster including some weekend work

About you

- Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services and/or a related Human Services field

- Demonstrated understanding of client-centred and trauma-informed practice

- Ability to work with limited supervision and exercise judgement and initiative in a role with developing practices and processes

- Demonstrated understanding of the varying needs of women and children who come from diverse backgrounds and present with multiple and complex needs





- Experience in providing case management and coordinated services for women and children with complex needs

- Knowledge and understanding of domestic and family violence and homelessness, including the legal and social impacts on women and children and working in a best practice approach

- High-level organisational skills, the ability to be flexible and set priorities and ensure adherence to service standards in a fast paced and changing environment

- Current first aid certificate or capacity to acquire one before commencement

- Current NSW driver's License

- Right to live and work in Australia with ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia

Women's Shelter is dedicated to supporting and empowering women to take control and move forward with their lives. The shelter is staffed 7 days a week and is an Australian Service Excellence Standards Accredited Shelter. We follow a feminist approach and offer supportive work arrangements, including external professional supervision.
