Primary objective

As Chief Industries Officer develop, maintain and manage an operational workplace environment for prisoners who are training and working in the Horticulture program.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Develop, maintain and manage an operational workplace environment, including implementing OH & S policies and

guidelines, for prisoners who are training and working in the Horticulture program.
1. Deliver accredited training and assessment to prisoners.
2. Provide prisoners with the skills, knowledge and experience which will support their reintegration into the community

on release.
1. Responsible for security matters relating to the workplace.
2.



Develop links between the vocational training and work program and the skills and work opportunities available in the

wider community.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Successful completion of Certificate III in Horticulture and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
2. Experience in or considerable knowledge of prison operations and a thorough knowledge of running a Horticulture

Industry.
1. Knowledge of legislation relevant to managing staff and resources in a public sector environment.
2. Experience working in a cross-cultural environment facilitating a training program.
3. Valuable interpersonal skills and well-developed leadership skills with the ability to understand and empathise with both

prison staff and prisoners.
1. Ability to determine daily/long term priorities and meet deadlines.
2. Ability to cope with crisis situations and resolve conflict.
3. Medium Rigid licence or ability to obtain prior to commencement.

Desirable

1. Comprehensive knowledge of legislation relevant to Correctional Services.
