Job Title: Community Development Trainee

4 days/ week (60.8 hours/ fortnight)

Are you graduating Year 12 looking for a meaningful gap year before heading to TAFE or university? Are you passionate about your community, interested in working with young people and keen to gain practical experience? The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is looking for a Community Development Trainee to join our team for a one-year paid traineeship.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community development while contributing to projects and initiatives that make a difference across the Margaret River region.

About the opportunity

As a Community Development Trainee, you will work alongside our Community Development and Resilience team, supporting a range of programs and projects focused on youth engagement, access and inclusion, age-friendly communities and building community capacity. No two days will be the same. You could be:

- Helping deliver youth events and initiatives such as SAMMFEST, Youth Week activities and Councillor for a Day.
- Supporting the Rec Connect Friday night youth program.
- Facilitating the Margs Youth Collective (MYC) and supporting youth engagement activities.
- Creating promotional and social media content for community programs and events.
- Supporting community consultations and stakeholder engagement.
- Helping coordinate the Zone Room and Youth Hall, including bookings and events.




- Assisting with community development projects and funding applications.
- Attending community forums, networks and meetings.
- Representing young people in local community discussions.
- Supporting initiatives under the Shire's Age Friendly, Access and Inclusion, community capacity building and Aboriginal partnership strategies.
- Developing your qualified skills through training and mentoring.
- Completing a Certificate III in an area relevant to community development or business administration.

You will also have opportunities to participate in Margaret River Senior High School and community board meetings as a Youth Representative, giving you valuable insight into how local government and community organisations work together.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, curious and genuinely interested in making a positive contribution to their community.

You will ideally have

- Successfully completed, or be progressing towards successful completion of, Year 12 and intend to undertake tertiary studies after your traineeship.
- An interest in community development and social issues, particularly youth issues.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office




- A current C or CA class driver's licence, or significant progression towards obtaining one.
- A commitment to living within the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

Previous volunteering or involvement with community groups, youth organisations or initiatives such as the Margs Youth Collective is highly regarded. Experience with design software, marketing materials or grant applications would also be advantageous.
