A specialist energy advisory firm seeks a Consultant to build and apply electricity market models for Western Australia. You will turn complex modelling into transparent commercial advice for investors, developers and market participants.

Suits a modeller with 2 to 3 years' experience who is ready to step up and own client work. You will work flexibly in a respected energy markets team, with international exposure through offices abroad.

Responsibilities:

- Build, run and maintain wholesale electricity market models for Western Australian projects, making sure they are accurate and match project objectives
- Model the energy market, Essential System Services and Reserve Capacity Mechanism to answer client questions
- Produce price projections, capacity outcomes and revenue forecasts for generation, storage and renewable assets
- Run scenario and sensitivity analysis on demand, fuel prices, new entry and retirements
- Track market reform, rule changes and regulatory developments, and reflect them in modelling assumptions
- Maintain and improve input datasets, including demand, generation, network and cost data
- Quality check your own and your peers' modelling outputs before they reach clients
- Prepare reports and slide packs that summarise modelling results, methodology and insights
- Present findings to clients and answer technical questions on assumptions and results




- Work directly with clients on project delivery, keeping scope and timelines on track
- Contribute to proposals, bids and presentations for new work
- Help improve the firm's modelling tools and internal processes

Required Experience:

- 2 to 3 years in energy market modelling, analytics or a quantitative energy role
- Exposure to PLEXOS or comparable market modelling software
- WEM exposure highly regarded; NEM modellers will also be considered
- Working knowledge of how capacity, energy and ancillary service markets interact
- Strong data handling skills, with Python, SQL, R or advanced Excel
- Able to explain quantitative results to commercial and non technical audiences
- Clear, structured written communication for client reports and presentations
- Background in consultancy, a generator, retailer, market operator or network business
- Understanding of power systems or regulatory economics well regarded
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines in a small team environment

Qualifications:

- Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics or a related quantitative field
- Postgraduate study in energy, economics or a quantitative discipline well regarded
- Industry training in WEM or NEM market operations, such as market operator courses, well regarded
