Then a Business Traineeship with East Gippsland Shire Council may be just what you need!
What we’re offering:
- 12 months full time employment. You’ll work 38 hours a week, Monday to Friday. No weekends or late night shifts!
- A steady income, minimum of $877 a week, plus superannuation, paid annual and sick leave

- Learning with friends! We’re hiring 3 trainees so you won’t be alone – work and study together.
So, we have your attention, keep reading to find out what it’s all about! Commencing in January 2027, as a business trainee, you will learn the fundamentals to get you started in your career. Your first three months will be hosted by the customer experience team, where you will learn about the different functions council performs, how to provide excellent customer service and the basics of administration, data entry and teamwork.
Once your first three months are under your belt you’ll start to move around to different teams,
learning about what each team does and how the skills you learnt in your first three months underpin every role you have.
Along the way you’ll have a half day per week allocated to study your allocated modules. You’ll still need to do some study outside of work, plan to allocate additional time each week to complete course work. The teacher comes to us so you can continue your learning in the work environment for maximum benefit.
We provide you with a uniform, a laptop to use for study and everything else you need for success.
At the end of the 12 months, you’ll have a qualification and 12 months of government experience to add to your resume. You’ll also be eligible to apply for any job opportunities available at Council.

So how do you apply?
Create your resume. You need to include:
- Your full name and date of birth
- Contact details (phone number, email address)
- List any paid work experience
- List any other relevant experience eg: volunteering, coaching, school groups/clubs
- Your highest level of education eg:
Year 10/11/12 and the year you finished school
- Any previous qualifications you have eg: Cert 2 in floristry, white card
- Referees – paid work, schoolteacher, coach, church leader
Prepare responses to the following questions:
- Why do you want to do this traineeship?
- What do you believe are your strongest skills?
- What do you hope to learn from this traineeship?
- Tell us about something you’re proud of doing (for example, helping to raise your siblings, volunteering at church, improving your grades, winning a grand final)

Expressions of interest are open from now until 25 October 2026.
