Dari-Speaking Disability Support Worker – Preston

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Dari-speaking Disability Support Worker to provide one-on-one support to an NDIS participant in Preston.

The participant is from an Afghan background and is looking for a worker who can communicate in Dari and English and has an understanding of Afghan culture and customs.

The participant has regular medical and health-related appointments, so strong English communication skills are important. The worker may assist with booking appointments, communicating with medical services, understanding appointment information, and supporting the participant to attend appointments.

Location:

- Preston, Victoria

Position Type:

- ABN Contractor
- Shifts will be based on the participant's needs and roster requirements

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with daily living activities and personal tasks to support the participant's independence
- Provide support with household tasks and maintaining a secure and comfortable home environment
- Assist with meal preparation and nutrition-related activities
- Support community access, social participation and recreational activities
- Accompany the participant to medical, health and other appointments as required
- Assist with booking and coordinating appointments and communicating with medical and other service providers




- Support the participant with understanding and communicating appointment-related information in English
- Provide transport assistance where appropriate and in accordance with NDIS funding
- Promote the participant's choice, independence, wellbeing and achievement of their goals

Essential Requirements:

- Fluent in Dari and English
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work respectfully and independently
- Confident communicating with medical and other service providers in English

Desirable:

- Experience supporting people with disability
- Understanding of Afghan culture and customs
- Previous experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- Experience supporting people with medical or health-related appointments

This role requires a respectful, patient and person-centred approach. We are looking for someone who can build a trusting relationship with the participant, provide culturally appropriate support, and assist her to communicate effectively and navigate her appointments and community independently.
