Data Platform Lead

We are looking for a senior data platform specialist to help shape, govern and scale the data foundations that support our scientific, preclinical and clinical programs.

This is a senior individual contributor role: we need someone who can advise into strategy, set technical direction and make sound architectural decisions, while also designing, building and maintaining Python and R-based data engineering pipelines, data workflows and practical implementation, including retrieving, validating and integrating data from CRO-hosted systems when required.

This role will suit someone who has moved beyond pure task execution, but still enjoys solving hard technical problems directly, and is comfortable making trade-offs, influencing senior stakeholders and building data capabilities that are robust, secure, reusable and fit for purpose.

Reporting to the SVP Bioinformatics & Data Analytics, the role will provide technical expertise across data architecture, platform design, external data onboarding, governance, interoperability and delivery standards. You will help establish the patterns, controls and practices that make data trusted, traceable and usable across the organization.

You will work across scientific, preclinical, and clinical data domains, partnering with internal teams, vendors and external collaborators to ensure data flows are well-designed, governed appropriately and able to support high-quality analysis, reporting and decision-making.

In this role, you will:

· Design scalable data platform architecture, integration patterns and data lifecycle practices





· Define and oversee robust approaches for retrieving, onboarding, integrating and governing data from CRO-hosted systems, laboratories, clinical systems, vendors and research collaborators

· Set standards for automation, observability, validation, documentation and operational support across critical data workflows

· Provide senior technical input into platform decisions, including storage, metadata, access management, security, lineage, interoperability and future scalability

· Translate scientific, preclinical and clinical requirements into durable data products, operating models and delivery roadmaps

· Guide the development of trusted, analysis-ready datasets and reusable data assets for downstream analytics, reporting and scientific interpretation

· Act as a senior partner to scientific, bioinformatics, clinical operations, IT and business stakeholders, bringing structure and clarity to complex data problems

· Mentor others, raise engineering maturity and help shape how PYC manages and uses data as the organisation grows.

About You

We are looking for a senior, versatile data professional who can operate at both architectural and delivery levels. To be successful in the role, you will ideally have:

· A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline.

· Substantial experience leading data engineering, data platform or analytics engineering initiatives in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

· Strong hands-on capability in Python and R for data engineering, workflow automation,



validation and analysis-ready dataset creation.

· The ability to make sound architecture and design decisions without being tied to a single vendor stack, technology pattern or narrow implementation approach.

· A strong understanding of data modelling, interoperability, access patterns, data governance, lineage, quality controls and secure data sharing.

· Experience setting engineering standards, improving delivery practices and building maintainable systems that can be supported beyond any one individual.

· Strong attention to detail, particularly in relation to data quality, validation and traceability.

· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders, clarify ambiguity and explain technical trade-offs in practical business terms.

· Experience in life sciences, biotechnology, clinical data, bioinformatics, regulated environments, or external vendor data exchange would be highly regarded.

· Cloud platform experience is important, with a robust preference for people who have worked hands-on in AWS and Databricks-based data environments and can adapt across platforms. We are not looking for someone whose experience is limited to narrow Azure-only implementation work.
