DCJ & Disability Support Mentor

Location: Various locations, Western Sydney

About the Role

We're looking for experienced, compassionate Disability Support Workers who want to be mentors, not just carers. You'll support young people and adults with disability to build the confidence and practical skills they need for work, community life and independent living, with a solid focus on the transition from school to adult life.

If you have experience working with people involved with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), or you understand the complexities that can come with that, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

- Mentor participants to build employment skills, including resume writing, interview preparation, workplace readiness, training and work experience
- Support school leavers to navigate the transition from school to work, study and adult life
- Teach independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking, travel training and household routines
- Facilitate community access and social participation through group and individual activities
- Deliver capacity-building programs that grow participants' confidence, decision-making and independence
- Provide in-home support where required
- Work closely with families, support coordinators, allied health professionals and, where relevant, DCJ caseworkers and other agencies
- Follow behaviour support plans and apply trauma-informed, person-centred practice
- Keep accurate, timely and compliant case notes
- Promote participant choice and control at all times

About You

- Experience in disability or community services, ideally supporting people connected with DCJ (highly preferred)
- At least 1 year in a similar role (highly preferred)




- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Disability), Community Services, Youth Work or an equivalent qualification (highly preferred)
- A genuine passion for skill-building and helping people reach their goals
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with young people and adults from diverse backgrounds
- A calm, patient and professional approach, including when supporting people with complex needs
- Confidence working independently, with robust documentation skills
- Reliability, punctuality and flexibility to work across different programs and locations
- Cultural awareness and respect
- Ability to provide personal care and assist with mobility and daily tasks

Mandatory Requirements

- Valid driver's licence and a reliable car with comprehensive insurance
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain one)
- Working With Children Check
- National Police Check (or willingness to obtain one)
- First Aid certification (or willingness to complete training)
- Government-issued photo ID for verification
- ABN (or willingness to obtain one)
- Australian work authorisation
