About the role The Deputy Head of Museum is a full-time, two-year position, with the possibility of extension, responsible for supporting the Head of Museum in the day-to-day management and operation of the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History.

The role provides operational leadership across the Museum, coordinating the Collection Manager, Reception Centre Manager, Astronomy & Training Manager and Facilities Manager. It is responsible for ensuring operational priorities are implemented, staffing and payroll processes are managed effectively, issues are identified and resolved, and high standards of service, safety and performance are maintained.

The Deputy Head of Museum will also act for the Head of Museum as required and provide practical, hands-on support across Museum operations.

Key responsibilities

- Support the Head of Museum in the day-to-day management and operation of the Museum
- Coordinate and support the Museum's operational managers
- Ensure operational priorities, standards, procedures and initiatives are implemented effectively
- Monitor operational performance, identify issues and ensure matters are followed through to resolution
- Coordinate staffing, rosters, leave, payroll and employment administration
- Support managers with staff management, workforce planning and performance matters
- Monitor operational expenditure, budgets and key performance information
- Implement operational decisions and initiatives agreed with the Head of Museum
- Maintain effective communication across managers, staff and operational areas
- Prepare operational reports, information and documentation as required
- Promote high standards of customer service, work health and safety and operational compliance
- Support the care, security and maintenance of Museum facilities, grounds and collections
- Act for the Head of Museum when required and ensure continuity of operations
- Maintain positive relationships with staff, suppliers, tourism representatives and other stakeholders
- Be a practical,



visible and supportive leader who is willing to assist wherever needed

About you

- Minimum five years' relevant operational or management experience
- Experience managing and coordinating staff and managers
- Experience with rostering, payroll and employment administration
- Strong organisational, administrative and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow matters through to completion
- Understanding of budgets, expenditure, operational reporting and risk management
- Good working knowledge of workplace health and safety and employment requirements
- Strong customer-service focus and commitment to high operational standards
- Confident using business and operational systems, with the ability to learn new systems quickly
- Practical, accountable and cooperative approach to leadership
- Sound judgement, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience in a museum, tourism, visitor attraction, hospitality or not-for-profit workplace is highly regarded
- Relevant qualifications or training in business, management, administration, HR, tourism or a related field are desirable

About us The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History is a world-class organisation and home to the world's largest collection of Australia's largest dinosaur fossils. Australian Age of Dinosaurs was incorporated as a not-for-profit organisation in October 2002. The Museum relocated to The Jump-Up, 24km south-east of Winton in Central West Queensland, in 2009. Today the Museum houses the world's largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils and comprises a Fossil Preparation Laboratory, Reception Centre and the March of the Titanosaurs exhibition at Dinosaur Canyon. The Museum is a non-profit organisation which draws support from across Australia. Pay: From $100,000.00 per year
