About the role

BPSM Architects is seeking an experienced Architect to join our Hobart studio as a Director. This senior leadership opportunity is suited to an experienced registered architect ready to broaden their career pathway, lead a well-established Tasmanian practice and help shape its strategic, creative and commercial future.

The role provides leadership across design quality, strategy, people, projects and practice management. You will guide projects from early concept through delivery, strengthen client and industry relationships, develop studio capability and ensure the practice continues to deliver thoughtful, commercially sound and architecturally exceptional outcomes.

Candidates do not need to currently hold a director title; assessment will focus on architectural experience, demonstrated leadership, commercial capability, design judgement and alignment with the values and future needs of the practice.

Key responsibilities

- Help define and implement the practice's strategic direction, business plan and architectural vision.
- Champion design quality and provide creative and technical oversight across projects from early concept through delivery.
- Lead significant and complex projects where required, balancing design ambition, client objectives, regulatory obligations and commercial outcomes.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and stakeholders, supporting repeat business and current opportunities.
- Contribute to business development, marketing, submissions and the external profile of BPSM Architects.
- Mentor and develop architects, graduates and technical staff, fostering collaboration, accountability, creativity and professional growth.
- Oversee project financials, resourcing, programs, deliverables, contracts and consultant appointments.
- Strengthen studio systems, design review, quality assurance,



risk management and compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Work collaboratively with fellow directors to maintain a supportive studio culture and deliver the practice's long-term objectives.

About you

- Registration as an architect in Australia, or eligibility for registration in Tasmania.
- Substantial experience delivering complex architectural projects across design, documentation, procurement and construction.
- Demonstrated design leadership, technical judgement and knowledge of relevant legislation, codes, standards and sustainable design principles.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop multidisciplinary teams in a respectful and accountable way.
- Strong client, consultant and stakeholder management skills, supported by clear communication and confident presentation.
- Commercial acumen, including project financial management, fee and resource planning, risk awareness and operational oversight.
- Strategic thinking, business development capability and the initiative to convert priorities into practical action.
- Strong organisation, accuracy and reliability, with the ability to manage competing practice and project commitments.
