Primary objective

Under the direction of the Executive Director, promote, coordinate and support the development and delivery of sustainable energy projects that advance the NT Government’s electricity sector priorities, ensuring progress toward a secure, reliable and lowest-sustainable-cost electricity system.

Context statement

Sustainable Energy Development develops, de-risks and coordinates delivery of electricity sector policies, strategies and projects to secure economic efficiency,



strengthen electricity market design and create industry certainty. The Division takes a balanced approach to public delivery and private investment in keeping with the Government’s electricity sector priorities.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead the implementation of the Government’s electricity system plans and reviews as required.
2. Develop and supervise a small group of professional staff; and scope, procure, and manage a range of external

resources specialising in commercial contract development and negotiation, technical and engineering studies, and economic and financial analysis.
1. Work independently, exercising initiative, flexibility, problem solving skills and sound judgement.
2. Operate in a commercially and politically sensitive environment ensuring diplomacy and sensitivity to complex issues

and confidential information.
1. Prepare executive level briefings, reports and submissions to a range of internal and external stakeholders, in response

to Cabinet, Ministerial, executive or other agency requirements.
1. Establish and maintain strong working relationships and cooperative partnerships with a wide range of public and

private sector stakeholders.

Selection criteria

Essential

1.



Demonstrated superior project management experience with detailed knowledge of processes and methodologies,

including the selection of delivery methods for public sector projects.
1. High level interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence strategic outcomes through the

development and maintenance of effective stakeholder relationships and collaborative partnerships.
1. Strong background within government or private sector of shaping strategic thinking including developing and

implementing strategy through critical analysis and building a shared sense of purpose.
1. Demonstrated record of achieving results through marshalling expertise within an organisation as well as externally,

establishing parameters for project delivery, responding to change and risk, and evaluating capability and performance.
1. Demonstrated experience writing for publication and preparing briefings, submissions, policies and papers on sensitive

and complex subject matters.
1. Extensive knowledge of Government processes and risk management practices, challenges and issues associated with

project delivery.

Desirable

1. Tertiary qualifications in economics, business, electrical engineering or other relevant disciplines.
2. Technical knowledge relating to the energy industry.
