About the Opportunity The Plucked String is a brand-new boutique music space in Southbank. Following our launch of instrumental and world music programs, we are officially launching a brand-new Drum Kit & Percussion Program!
We are seeking a motivated, independent Drum Teacher to contract to our studio under a professional residency arrangement and spearhead this exciting new offering from the ground up. Because this is a brand-new launch, there is no initial student intake. However, we completely fund your launch by paying you to create content, and then we pay to run targeted ads to build your client base from day one.
What the Studio Invests in Your Independent Roster:
- Paid Content Creation (Immediate Income): We value your time. We pay you your full hourly rate ($45 + Super) to come into the Southbank studio to record your personalised drum marketing videos, technique tips, and promotional material.
- Fully Funded Social Media Campaigns: The studio entirely funds and executes targeted social media ad campaigns using the video content we film together, marketing your profile directly to the local Southbank community.
- Dedicated Electronic Drum Setup: Our teaching room features an electronic drum kit—offering a noise-managed environment perfect for high-quality instruction, low-volume/headphone capability, and easy audio-line connection for effortless video content creation.
- Paid Monthly Performance Events: We host monthly studio concerts. You are paid your full hourly rate ($45 + Super) for all scheduled time spent curating,
coordinating, and running these community events.
- Full Administrative Infrastructure: We absorb 100% of the overheads, including local SEO, automated booking systems, client onboarding, invoicing, and bad debt management. You focus purely on teaching.
Engagement Terms: This is an independent contractor arrangement paid strictly on a per-billable-session basis ($45/hr + Super) for all teaching, content recording, and event hours. It is perfectly suited for an energetic freelancer, contemporary drum tutor, or postgraduate student looking to build a premium Southbank student base completely backed by a studio advertising budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging 1-on-1 private drum kit lessons across contemporary, rock, jazz, world music, or pop styles.
- Guide students through core rhythm fundamentals, limb independence, timing, groove development, reading sheet music/charts, and kit setup.
- Explore cooperative crossover opportunities with our existing instrumental ensembles and student showcases.
Requirements:
- Active Australian Business Number (ABN).
- Valid Public Liability Insurance policy (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- Demonstrated experience teaching drum kit and rhythm techniques to various age groups and skill levels.
- Comfortable teaching on and operating electronic drum kits (adjusting module settings, headphone routing, and auxiliary inputs).
- Comfortable on camera for short promotional studio videos.
- Multilingual or world percussion repertoire background is highly regarded.
