As an Environmental Scientist in Contaminated Land, this is a good time to join a young consultancy that has moved beyond the start-up phase and is now winning the sort of larger projects that create genuine room for people to grow with it. They don't need another graduate, and they don't need a finished Project Manager. They need the person in between.

Someone with around 2–3 years' consulting experience who understands PSI/DSI work, can handle themselves in the field, writes a decent report and is ready to start taking greater ownership, while still having experienced PMs around them to review, guide and teach.

The business is currently tendering for larger infrastructure and contaminated land projects, while already delivering substantial investigations across industrial sites, renewables and commercial developments. As that pipeline grows, so should your role.

The Role

You'll sit between the junior field team and senior PMs, combining hands-on investigation work with reporting and gradually increasing project responsibility.

You'll

- Deliver PSI, DSI, validation and Acid Sulfate Soil investigations.
- Undertake soil and groundwater sampling and broader environmental field investigations.
- Work on larger contaminated land programs rather than being stuck doing endless small one-off jobs.
- Contribute to investigations involving soil, groundwater, vapour and surface water.
- Write PSI/DSI reports, with senior review and technical support available.
- Gain exposure to RAPs and waste classifications where projects require it.
- Gradually take ownership of defined pieces of work and smaller projects as your capability develops.
- Spend around two days per week in the field, occasionally three depending on the project.

Current and recent work includes a 5-hectare industrial DSI covering soil, groundwater, vapour and surface water, a major renewable energy project moving into remediation,



larger PSI/DSI programs and further infrastructure projects currently being tendered. Most fieldwork is around Sydney and surrounding areas. Some sites can mean roughly two hours' travel each way, but there isn't an expectation of constant regional or overnight travel. Where practical, you can travel directly from home to site.

The Team

This is a small, growing consultancy where your contribution will be visible.

You'll have experienced contaminated land people above you for technical support, alongside junior consultants who are earlier in their careers. That puts you in a practical position: experienced enough to get on with the work, but with plenty of room to keep learning.

They're looking for someone independent without pretending you should know everything already. Take a brief, have a crack, research what you don't know and ask sensible questions when you need to.

The business backs that up with career development, industry training and support toward relevant accreditations and memberships.

Hybrid working is available, along with company vehicles, fuel cards, full PPE, field equipment, laptop and phone. Overtime is paid and TOIL is available, with no regular weekend-work expectation.

Experience

- Around 2–3 years' environmental consulting experience, predominantly in contaminated land.
- Practical PSI/DSI, soil sampling, environmental investigation and reporting experience.
- Some groundwater knowledge plus exposure to Acid Sulfate Soils and validation work.
- Most importantly, enough initiative to take ownership of your work while still being comfortable learning from experienced PMs.

This isn't a PM job dressed up as a Scientist role. It's the step before it, with the project exposure and support to help you get there. Salary starts from $85,000 + super, with paid overtime / TOIL available.
