About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and passionate Horticulturalist/Gardener to join the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society of SA and help maintain one of South Australia's most iconic venues. In this full-time role, you will take hands-on responsibility for the care, presentation, and continuous improvement of the Adelaide Showground's gardens, turf areas, and irrigation systems. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring the Showground looks its best year-round, supporting the Royal Adelaide Show, major events, exhibitions, and a wide range of Society activities.

Key responsibilities

- Maintain and enhance gardens, landscaped areas, lawns, and open spaces across the Showgrounds

- Select, plant, and maintain appropriate plant species suited to local conditions and high-traffic environments

- Apply fertilisers, herbicides, and pesticides safely and in accordance with legislation and best practice

- Perform regular edging, pruning, mulching, planting, and weed control

- Oversee the Turf Management Contractor and manage mowing, renovations, aeration, top dressing, fertilising, and pest/disease control to all turf areas

- Prepare and present grounds to a high standard for events, peak periods, and the Show

- Operate and maintain manual and automated irrigation systems, adjust watering schedules and repair faults such as leaks, blockages and sprinkler issues.

- Operate and maintain horticultural equipment, machinery, and tools

About you

- Certificate III in Horticulture, or an equivalent qualification, or extensive relevant experience

- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in gardening or grounds maintenance is required

- Current Driver's Licence (essential)

- A current Working with Children Check (WWCC)

- Strong knowledge of gardening equipment and machinery

- Construction Induction Card (White Card) desirable

- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
