We are currently looking for a caring, reliable and proactive female Disability Support Worker to support a participant living in Flagstone, Queensland.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Shifts: 2 days a week 4 hours per day.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys community access, conversation, getting out and about and helping another person maintain their independence.

The participant is a 63 year old woman living with Multiple Sclerosis. She lives independently in her own home and uses an electric wheelchair. She also has access to an accessible vehicle available for community activities and outings.

This is primarily a lifestyle, community access and everyday living role rather than a personal care role.

We are looking for someone who can become a consistent part of her support team and take the time to build a genuine and respectful working relationship.

No two days will necessarily look the same.

One day might involve heading out into the community, attending an appointment or enjoying an outing. Another might involve helping with things around the home, getting organised for the week, spending time together or helping care for her much loved pug.

ABOUT YOU





- The right person for this role will be someone who is reliable, friendly and comfortable taking initiative.
- We would particularly love to hear from someone who notices the little things.
- You do not always need to wait to be told what needs doing. You can look around, understand the participant’s routine and ask how you can help while always respecting her choices and independence.
- You should be someone who enjoys building relationships and understands that consistency is important.

- You will ideally have previous disability support experience and a positive understanding of supporting people with physical disability or mobility needs.
- You should have positive communication skills, a calm and respectful approach and the confidence to work independently while knowing when to ask for assistance.

Being local to Flagstone or the surrounding area would be highly desirable.

You will also need a current driver’s licence and reliable transport.

WHAT THE SUPPORT MAY LOOK LIKE The role may include supporting community access and outings, assisting with the participant’s accessible vehicle, supporting everyday household routines and helping her remain active and connected with her community.

It may also include supporting social activities, appointments and other things that are important to her.

Being comfortable around dogs is important.



Support may include helping with walks, grooming and general care for her.

- Someone who enjoys conversation and companionship but also understands professional boundaries.
- Someone practical who can see what needs doing.
- Someone who understands that supporting independence sometimes means helping and sometimes means stepping back.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who sees the person before the disability.
