About the Chance

SWEL is seeking a qualified and experienced First Class Welder to join our team in Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

This is a permanent, locally based position (not FIFO), offering competitive pay, varied projects and the opportunity to work across both workshop fabrication and remote industrial sites throughout Central Australia.

We are looking for an experienced tradesperson who takes pride in their workmanship, can work independently and enjoys being part of a small, skilled team.

From coded welding and specialised fabrication to large-scale equipment repairs and remote site installations, we are Central Australia's one-stop metal shop.

Key Responsibilities

- Workshop and site-based welding and fabrication.
- Pipe welding using TIG, MIG and flux-cored welding processes.
- Welding stainless steel, aluminium and carbon steel.
- Generator installations, including fuel and coolant pipework.
- Coded welding and weld testing to applicable NDT standards.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and work orders.
- Troubleshooting, problem-solving and general fabrication duties.




- Supporting and leading small teams when required.
- Maintaining high standards of quality and workplace safety.

About You

- We are looking for a qualified and experienced First Class Welder with:
- Trade qualifications and a minimum of seven years' post-trade welding experience.
- Strong TIG welding skills, particularly in pipe welding is a requirement
- Proficiency in MIG and flux-cored welding.
- Experience working with stainless steel, aluminium and carbon steel is a requirement
- The ability to produce welds that meet applicable codes and NDT requirements, including UT, DPI and MPI.
- The ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work independently and contribute positively to a small team.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
- The physical ability to undertake workshop and remote site duties.
- Experience in coded welding, pipe fit up and welding, generator installations and working in a small team will be highly regarded.

- $48–$56 per hour flat rate, depending on skills and experience, licences and qualifications
- Additional $10 per hour for remote site work.

Visa Sponsorship

Applications are welcome from suitably qualified and experienced welders currently residing in Australia.

Employer sponsorship or transfer of an existing subclass 482 visa may be considered for eligible applicants, subject to immigration requirements and business approval.

Overseas applicants who are not currently residing in Australia will not be considered for visa sponsorship at this stage.
