Geotechnical Engineer – Tailings & Dams (Design Focus)

We are currently partnering with an established, highly regarded specialist consultancy looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join their Perth-based team.

This role is heavily design-focused, offering the opportunity to drive complex analysis and engineering solutions for critical water retention and Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs). While there will be occasional, targeted site visits for critical project milestones, the core of this position is based in the Perth office, working closely with industry-recognised tailings experts on major WA mining infrastructure.

The Role

- Advanced geotechnical design and analysis of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and water dams
- Extensive use of industry-standard software (e.g., GeoStudio, Plaxis, FLAC) for seepage, settlement, deformation, and slope stability modelling
- Interpretation of complex field and laboratory data to develop accurate geotechnical design parameters
- Preparation of detailed design documentation, technical specifications, and dam safety review reports
- Occasional, targeted site visits for construction QA/QC, geotechnical monitoring, or critical investigations




- Assisting with risk assessments and annual audits in line with regulatory standards

About You

- Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
- Typically 3 to 10 years of relevant experience, heavily weighted toward geotechnical design in tailings, dams, or heavy earthworks
- Solid proficiency in geotechnical modelling and analysis software
- Robust analytical, communication, and technical writing skills
- Australian working rights and a current driver’s licence
