WE'RE OPENING SOMETHING SPECIAL

XS Espresso is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Head Barista to join our brand-new Gasworks location in Brisbane.

This is more than a role behind the coffee machine. As our Head Barista, you'll be responsible for setting the standard for coffee, developing the bar team and helping create the energetic, welcoming environment that XS Espresso is known for.

You'll be part of the opening team, helping bring a brand-new café to life and building strong relationships with both our team and our local community.

THE ROLE

As Head Barista, you'll take ownership of all things coffee while working closely with the Café Manager and wider team.

Your responsibilities will include

- Leading the coffee operation and setting consistently high coffee standards
- Preparing exceptional espresso coffee and ensuring quality is maintained throughout every service
- Training, coaching and developing baristas and all-rounders
- Setting up and maintaining an efficient, organised bar
- Managing coffee calibration, grind settings and daily quality control
- Maintaining coffee equipment and ensuring the coffee station is clean and well presented
- Managing coffee stock, ordering and wastage
- Helping recruit and build a strong bar team
- Leading by example during busy services and remaining hands-on
- Working closely with the kitchen and floor teams to deliver a smooth service
- Creating a positive, energetic and supportive team setting
- Building relationships with regular guests and getting to know our local community

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for someone who genuinely loves coffee and loves hospitality.

You will ideally have

- Previous experience as a Head Barista, Senior Barista or Barista Supervisor




- Strong espresso coffee and milk texturing skills
- Experience training and developing other baristas
- A strong understanding of coffee calibration and quality control
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- The ability to stay calm and organised during busy periods
- A hands-on approach — you're not afraid to jump in and get things done
- A genuine passion for hospitality and creating great guest experiences
- Pride in presentation, cleanliness and consistency
- The ability to lead a team with energy, positivity and accountability
