Let's be upfront: this is not a "can you start immediately" brief.

Our client, a US multinational medical device business, has a Head of Financial Control who will be retiring early in the new year. Rather than waiting for the farewell card to do the rounds, they are doing the sensible thing and planning the succession well ahead of time.

The formal recruitment process will gather momentum in the new financial year (US multinational, so a December year-end). For now, we are quietly canvassing the market to understand who might be open to an opportunity like this when the timing lands.

If you are settled where you are but would take a call for the right role, this is exactly the kind of conversation worth having early.

As for the role itself, this is a technical seat inside a global finance machine. You will carry the APAC mandate for technical accounting and statutory reporting, sit within a global reporting and control working group, and provide information up to global finance committees. It is a matrix organisation, so influence does as much of the heavy lifting as authority, and not every reporting line is a straight one.

Then there are the time zones. Australia usually draws the short end of the stick on global calls, which means some early mornings and some late evenings. That is a genuine part of this role, not an occasional inconvenience, and the right person will already know how to build a working week around it.

Role Profile

- Lead financial control and technical accounting across the APAC region. You are the person the business comes to when a transaction,



contract or policy question needs a considered answer rather than a quick one.
- Own statutory reporting for the regional entities, including the external audit relationship and the bridge between local statutory requirements and US GAAP group reporting.
- Contribute as a member of the global reporting and control working group, bringing an APAC perspective to group accounting policy, close processes and control design.
- Prepare and present information for global finance committees, turning regional results and technical issues into something a US based audience can understand and act on.
- Maintain a robust Sarbanes-Oxley control environment across the region, from control ownership and testing through to remediation when something needs fixing.
- Keep a close eye on the balance sheet areas that matter most in this sector, particularly inventory valuation, provisioning and stock held across multiple locations.
- Contribute to the work of the global finance office, including group initiatives, policy rollouts and the occasional request that arrives in the evening.
- Work closely with regional finance and commercial leaders so the control framework is understood and applied, rather than tolerated.

Successful Candidate Profile We are looking for a technically strong finance leader who has lived inside a US multinational and knows exactly what that entails. The ideal background will include:

- Experience within medical devices, medical technology or medical distribution would be fantastic. Failing that, a background in an inventory driven distribution business will translate well.
- A US multinational background,



with direct experience working with a US parent. This is the non-negotiable part of the brief.
- Solid exposure to US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, not just awareness of them.
- Genuine technical accounting depth and confidence owning statutory reporting end to end.
- The ability to thrive in a matrix organisation. You are comfortable with dotted lines, multiple stakeholders and getting outcomes through influence.
- Clear, concise communication with senior global stakeholders, including committee level reporting.
- A realistic view of the time zone commitment. If early calls with the US are a dealbreaker, this one probably isn't for you.

This could suit a current Financial Controller, Head of Financial Control or Technical Accounting lead within a US multinational who is ready for a broader regional mandate, or someone already in a similar seat who can see value in a well planned move rather than a rushed one.
