The Opportunity

Minarah College is seeking an experienced, dynamic and highly motivated educational leader to join the Primary School as Head of Teaching and Learning – Primary.

The successful applicant will provide strong instructional and academic leadership across the Primary School and play a central role in improving teaching practice, student achievement and learning outcomes.

The position is primarily focused on teaching and learning, academic improvement, curriculum implementation, staff development and student outcomes. The successful applicant will work closely with the Deputy Principal – Primary, Primary teaching staff, relevant Year Level Advisors, and the Islamic Studies and Arabic Departments to ensure a cohesive, high-quality educational program aligned with the College’s Vision, Mission, Islamic ethos and Strategic Plan.

The successful applicant will demonstrate high expectations of students and staff, strong curriculum and pedagogical knowledge, effective leadership and communication skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to build positive and collaborative professional relationships.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership and Improvement

- Provide strong instructional leadership across the Primary School and lead initiatives designed to improve student academic outcomes.
- Analyse student achievement data, identify areas requiring improvement and support targeted intervention and extension programs.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of academic improvement priorities.
- Promote a culture of evidence-based teaching, high expectations, professional accountability and continuous improvement.

2. Teaching and Learning

- Lead and support the development and implementation of high-quality teaching and learning programs across the Primary School.
- Promote effective pedagogy, differentiation, assessment and classroom practice.
- Support consistency in curriculum delivery and assist teachers to implement engaging, innovative and evidence-informed teaching strategies.

3. Lesson Observation, Student Work and Teacher Development

- Conduct regular lesson observations and develop a system to review and monitor student activity books and work.
- Provide constructive feedback to teachers and support the development of professional goals and classroom practice.
- Identify professional learning needs and contribute to the development and delivery of professional learning initiatives for Primary teaching staff.
- Promote a culture of reflective practice,



collaboration and professional accountability.

4. Professional Learning and Collaboration

- Lead effective teaching and learning meetings and professional learning activities.
- Encourage the sharing of effective practice and support teachers in using student data to inform planning and instruction.
- Contribute to mentoring and developing both beginning and experienced teachers.

5. Islamic Studies and Arabic Integration

- Work closely with the Islamic Studies and Arabic Departments to strengthen the integration of the College’s Islamic ethos and Arabic language learning across the Primary educational experience.
- Foster meaningful collaboration between classroom teachers, Islamic Studies teachers and Arabic teachers.
- Support opportunities for students to connect their academic learning with Islamic values, character development and Arabic language learning.
- Ensure that the pursuit of academic excellence is balanced with and strengthened by the distinctive Islamic identity and mission of Minarah College.

6. Curriculum Planning and Assessment

- Support the development, implementation and review of Primary curriculum programs and ensure alignment with relevant NESA requirements and College expectations.
- Promote effective assessment practices and ensure assessment data is used to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps and inform future teaching.

7. Student Achievement and Intervention

- Monitor student academic progress across Primary year levels.
- Work with teachers and relevant leaders to identify students requiring additional support or extension.
- Monitor intervention strategies and contribute to initiatives designed to improve student achievement.
- Ensure all students are appropriately challenged and supported.

8. Collaboration and Communication

- Work closely with the Deputy Principal – Primary, Primary teachers, Year Advisors, Learning Support staff, Islamic Studies and Arabic staff and other members of the College leadership team.
- Promote professional teamwork, respectful communication, shared responsibility and collective accountability for student outcomes.

9. Primary School Operations

- Work with the Deputy Principal – Primary to support the effective day-to-day organisation of the Primary School.
- Support communication, implementation of College procedures and academic programs.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe, orderly and productive learning environment.

10. Compliance and Professional Standards

- Support the implementation of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.
- Ensure teaching and learning practices comply with NESA requirements and College policies.
- Promote skilled standards, accountability and timely completion of academic responsibilities.

Key Selection Criteria & Attributes The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- Appropriate qualifications in Primary Education or a related discipline.
- Current NESA accreditation or eligibility, as applicable.
- Significant Primary teaching and leadership experience.
- Demonstrated capacity to improve student learning outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum, assessment and contemporary pedagogy.
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support teachers in improving classroom practice.
- Ability to use student achievement data to inform teaching, intervention and academic improvement.
- Ability to build positive, collaborative and professional relationships across the College.
- Commitment to the Islamic ethos and values of Minarah College.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Islamic Studies and Arabic staff.

- Previous experience in Primary academic leadership.
