Role overview

We are looking for an in-house legal contractor to provide practical, commercially focused legal support during a 5 month parental leave period. This is a part time position, working 3 days per week. In this role, you will have primary responsibility for managing day-to-day contracting, supplier and procurement matters, legal drafting, product governance queries and selected compliance requests, with support from designated senior stakeholders for material or strategic matters.

The successful candidate will be responsive, organised and comfortable operating with autonomy. They will provide concise, risk-based advice, build trusted relationships with business stakeholders, keep matters moving, and escalate promptly where an issue is strategic, urgent or outside the agreed remit.

Key responsibilities

- Manage day-to-day client contract matters, including non-standard consulting terms and conditions, tender contract reviews,



Master Services Agreements and related negotiations.
- Review supplier terms and conditions and support governance for new technology suppliers, including supporting our information security function with supplier due diligence and onboarding processes.
- Draft, review and negotiate legal documents, including NDAs, contract variations, statutory declarations, subcontracting agreements and memoranda of understanding.
- Advise on product governance matters, including non-standard service levels, proposed use cases and additional product warranties.
- Respond to client procurement and risk requirements, including modern slavery and other risk questionnaires.
- Complete and coordinate client information security questionnaires and AI impact assessments, working with relevant internal specialists as required.
- Manage selected ad hoc compliance matters, including compliance incidents, sensitive securities issues, AI tool assessments and overseas working requests.
- Maintain responsive service to internal stakeholders, identify legal and compliance risks, and escalate strategic, high-risk or unusual matters to nominated senior contacts.

Skills and experience

Essential

- Holds, or is eligible to hold,



a current and unrestricted Australian practising certificate as a corporate legal practitioner in NSW.
- Minimum 7 years’ PQE in an in-house or commercial legal environment, with confidence managing matters independently.
- Strong experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Practical understanding of procurement, technology governance and information security issues.
- Clear written and verbal communication, sound judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
- Ability to prioritise competing requests, meet deadlines and recognise when escalation is required.

Desirable

- Exposure to privacy, AI governance, modern slavery, product governance or broader corporate compliance matters.
- Experience in consulting, professional services, technology, data or another business-to-business environment.
- Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders across legal, risk, information security, product, finance and senior management.

Working arrangements Part time, 3 days per week.

Hybrid working arrangement, with at least two days per week in the office at The Rocks, Sydney, NSW.
