Southwell Engineering is looking for an experienced Laser Cutting & Brake Press Operator to join our manufacturing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and reliable tradesperson with experience in laser cutting, brake press operation and sheet-metal fabrication to become part of a growing company specialising in lifts, hoists and lifting equipment.

The Role

Working within our manufacturing workshop, you will be responsible for producing high-quality components and assemblies used in our lift and hoist systems.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

- Operating and setting up laser cutting machinery.
- Operating and setting up brake presses.
- Cutting, folding and forming sheet metal to engineering specifications.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Selecting appropriate tooling and machine settings.
- Measuring and inspecting finished components for accuracy.
- Working with a range of steel and sheet-metal products.
- Assisting with general fabrication and workshop duties when required.
- Maintaining machinery, tooling and a clean, organised work area.
- Working safely and following company procedures and quality standards.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate will have:





- Previous experience operating laser cutting and brake press machinery.
- Sheet-metal fabrication experience.
- The ability to confidently read engineering drawings.
- Good understanding of measurements, tolerances and fabrication processes.
- Strong attention to detail.
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a strong work ethic.
- A commitment to workplace safety and producing quality work.
