About the role
Reporting to the Regional Manager, Asia-Pacific, this is a demanding yet rewarding role providing critical live coverage of events occurring across the globe as part of our worldwide RTC team. The Lead Analyst will mentor and support other analysts while helping shape the direction of the Asia-Pacific team.
The samdesk platform is an AI tool that is not only the first to break the news but also provides the information and context needed by today's Fortune 500 organizations in their growing business continuity needs. The alert you send to a customer about an active shooter threat at a shopping mall may prompt them to advise nearby customers and employees to seek shelter, lockdown stores and reroute deliveries away from the area. As such, customers trust us to provide them with up-to-date and accurate information on time.
It can be high pressure but we provide a friendly, supportive team alongside the tools and training you need to succeed.
samdesk alerts vary greatly and range from disruptive weather and conflict updates to bomb threats and shootings. During a shift, you may have hundreds of incidents to evaluate and make a decision on. You may only have 10 seconds to make a decision on each incident - do our customers need to react to this?
Who we’re looking for
- You value accountability, both personal and collective, and ensure your team delivers on commitments with consistency and integrity
- You are interested in breaking news and current affairs and understand the value of social media newsgathering and fact-finding
- You are confident working independently and remotely as part of a diverse, globally distributed team and thrive in a breaking news environment
- You have an interest in geopolitical issues and how they may impact businesses, people and governments
What you'll do The successful candidate will join our real time coverage team and report to our regional manager in the APAC region. The role is approximately 75% on shift support and 25% people management, administration and projects.
- Ensure the quality of our data output (alerts, content and information), and ensure that what customers see is timely and relevant
- Manage at least two analysts, providing performance feedback, coaching and goal setting
- Hire, onboard and train new team members as required, in coordination with the training team
- Quickly understand which events are of higher impact and relevance to our users, using a combination of your experience, judgement and our playbooks to prioritize
- Collect information in real time, corroborate it and build out the breadth and depth of our real time coverage as a crisis unfolds
- Contribute to shared resources to improve our content and information discovery processes and foster collaboration on the team
- Join an internal working group focused on geopolitics, forward planning and forecasting, or climate disasters
- Support the team's day-to-day operations by giving teammates real time feedback and guidance, helping with scheduling and rostering, approving leave requests and acting as the liaison for interdepartmental requests when necessary, among other tasks
- Uphold samdesk's culture and company values, serving as a role model for others, in an effort to foster and protect a positive workplace
To help you succeed, we provide a supportive team, the right tools, training and a variety of resources to help guide you. samdesk provides trauma-informed practice, ensuring analysts are supported on shift, including wellbeing tools, debriefs and professional support through the employer-provided health benefits program. Although this is a remote role, you'll work closely with colleagues across the world as part of the wider RTC team. On shift,
you will connect with other analysts in real time via an audio call to promote fluid communication and ensure incidents are monitored and context is provided to customers in real time.
We're looking for someone with:
- A relevant degree (political science, international relations, journalism, etc.) or demonstrated experience preparing real time reports or analysis for crisis management or in a newsroom environment (e.g. Security Operations Center analyst, intelligence analyst, emergency dispatcher, breaking news/OSINT reporter)
- At least one year of management experience, including coaching and performance reviews
- The right to work full time in Australia, without visa sponsorship or restrictions
Bonus points if you have:
- Worked in the corporate security or intelligence industries
- Worked in a newsroom or OSINT environment
- Proficiency in other languages
Salary 80,000 to 85,000 AUD per annum, excluding superannuation.
Working hours and flexibility
This isn't a typical remote role and may not be for everybody! We need to ensure continuous coverage of urgent emergencies, so this role requires you to be "plugged-in" and working on our dashboard during your shift. This can mean organized break schedules and set shift times.
In exchange, you don't need to take your work home with you, and your rostered hours are planned a month in advance, with limited requirement to work additional hours.
APAC analysts span several time zones and must be adaptable to cover shifts supporting the wider APAC team.
What's in it for you?
- Work with a committed and passionate team of innovators at a fast-growing startup
- A career-building opportunity, working with cross-functional teams and the world's most notable brands to provide a life-saving solution
- Company-funded health benefits
A note on generative AI This role will involve working with AI-generated data, so please don't use AI to apply. The application and interview process are intended to let us learn more about you as an individual and how you make decisions.
