Senior Linux Platform Engineer | Secure Australian Government Program

Location: Fishermans Bend, VIC or Edinburgh, SA

Working arrangement: Onsite at least four days per week

Contract: Initial term to 30 June 2028, with up to two 12-month extensions

Experience level: Mid-Senior

Security clearance: Current NV2 required

About the opportunity

Azooa is seeking an experienced Senior Linux Platform Engineer to support a secure, high-performance computing workplace. The role focuses on Linux operating-system base images, platform automation, secure administration and privileged tooling for a major supercomputing capability.

What you’ll do

- Develop, test and maintain secure supercomputing platform software.
- Deliver operating-system base-image artefacts that meet design, security and performance requirements.
- Build automation tools, configuration templates and technical documentation.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for system images and automation workflows.
- Develop tooling for user, storage and cluster administration.
- Support platform health, metrics and security monitoring.
- Develop researcher self-service tools and containerised services.
- Maintain Role-Based Access Control and Host-Based Access Control schemes.
- Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to Commonwealth personnel.

Essential experience





- Strong systems programming experience in Linux environments and deep knowledge of Linux internals.
- OS image creation and provisioning using Kickstart, cloud-init, PXE, Packer or equivalent.
- CI/CD pipeline design for system images and automation workflows.
- Configuration as code and infrastructure automation using Ansible or comparable tools.
- Identity and access management, including RBAC and technologies such as LDAP, Active Directory, FreeIPA or IDM.
- Ability to work within Australian Government security requirements, including the ISM and PSPF.

Highly regarded

- High-performance computing or supercomputing experience.
- HPC schedulers such as Slurm or PBS.
- High-performance networking, including InfiniBand or RDMA.
- Kubernetes and containerised platform services.

Security and working arrangements Candidates must hold a current NV2 security clearance and be available to work onsite at least four days per week in Fishermans Bend or Edinburgh. Some travel may be required.
