Our client is a livestock breeding property in Victoria's Western District, held by the same family for five generations and expanded over the past 10 to 15 years through the purchase of neighbouring blocks. The operation spans 3,225ha of reliable basalt and loam country on 580mm average rainfall, running 9,000 Merino ewes, half joined to prime rams, alongside 800 Angus cows, now spring calving.

The owners are continuing to invest in the property and the team that runs it. Proway sheep yards built in 2021 have a double bulk handler under a 1,400m2 shed attached to a ten-stand shearing shed, holding around 3,000 grown sheep under cover. The existing cattle yards have a new crush and drafting pens, and new centrally located cattle yards, a machinery shed and a workshop are being planned.

A recent office, lunchroom and bathroom building will be completed before shearing in November. Laneways link the paddocks, and bore and dam water feed the troughs.

The Role

You'll lead the stock work day to day, working to the Station Manager's program and running your own team of working dogs most days. You'll move and monitor sheep and cattle across the property, keep the animal health calendar of drenching and vaccination to schedule, and keep the AgriWebb record accurate, the same record the owners use for their read of the operation.

You'll lead the livestock jobs the two Station Hands work on and help bring on the less experienced, with casuals when needed and contractors for shearing, crutching and lamb marking. When the Manager is away, you carry the livestock operation within agreed authority, and your read on grazing and stock decisions is part of the job. The Manager will train you in how things are done on the property.

The work stays in the paddock rather than the office. Alongside the stock,



you'll fix a fence, clean a trough, maintain the side-by-side you run each day, and step onto a tractor for feeding and general property tasks. The family values a happy, orderly and well-maintained workplace: gear put away, yards and sheds kept clean, and a safety-first mentality across everything.

Key Responsibilities

- Run the stock day to day. Move and monitor sheep and cattle across the property, reporting to the Manager on health and condition.
- Lead the livestock jobs. Run the stock jobs the Station Hands work on, and help train and develop the less experienced.
- Muster with your own dogs. Work stock with an efficient team of working dogs, using low-stress handling.
- Keep the animal health calendar to schedule. Meet feeding requirements across all stock classes and keep drench, vaccine and other animal health products on hand.
- Keep AgriWebb accurate and current. Contribute to feed budgeting and the grazing plan, and liaise with stock agents and contractors when required.
- Support the seasonal programs. Mustering, marking, shearing, crutching, lambing and calving through the year.
- Cover general property duties. Fencing repairs, trough cleaning, upkeep of yards, sheds and equipment, and tractor work as required.
- Stand in for the Manager on livestock. Carry the livestock operation when the Manager is away, within agreed authority.





What You Bring The role suits someone who puts the stock first and notices the small things, treats no job as beneath them, and looks after the gear they're given. Senior Station Hands and Senior Livestock Hands ready to lead the stock work are encouraged to apply.

Essential:

- Four or more years' hands-on sheep and cattle experience, including leading stock jobs with other staff on the job.
- Your own team of efficient working dogs.
- A current driver's licence.
- Comfortable recording livestock data and working with farm software.
- Australian work rights.

Advantageous:

- ChemCert, Low Stress Stock Handling and First Aid certificates.
- Experience with AgriWebb or a similar livestock record-keeping platform.
- Tertiary education in agriculture.

What You'll Gain

- Package: $85k - $90k (neg) + Super, with a farm ute provided for work purposes.
- Housing: Four-bedroom house on farm in good condition, with the first $600 of each quarterly power bill covered.
- Hours: Generally 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Planned weekend work through calving, lambing, shearing and crutching is taken as time in lieu or otherwise negotiated with the Manager.
- Extras: Two bags of working dog nuts supplied each month, and an annual lamb butchering shared among staff.
- Location: 65km to Warrnambool and the coast, with the school bus passing the front gate.
