Dawson Mine Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.

Dawson Mine, located near Moura, is only a 2-hour drive from Rockhampton & Gladstone. It is a large and agile open cut steelmaking coal mine operation made up of two operating pits - Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland with no signs of slowing down. Dawson Mine is rich in history, it was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963 – join the legacy today!

We are seeking a Maintenance Superintendent: Engineering MEM to join the maintenance leadership team at Dawson Mine on a 6-month fixed term basis with Anglo American. Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible Maintenance & Engineering Management (MEM) statutory responsibilities for the open-cut coal mine.



You will also lead the development and optimisation of maintenance strategies, specifications, and engineering standards to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment performance across the site.

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer: MEM, the key accountabilities are:

- Lead the development and deployment of strategic mechanical engineering initiatives in alignment with the Engineering and Maintenance Strategy.
- Act as the Statutory Mechanical Engineer for the site, ensuring compliance with SHMS obligations, Recognised Standards, and legislation.
- Represent the mechanical discipline in strategic planning sessions, including Life of Mine planning, department BARA reviews, and risk assessments.
- Approve mechanical inputs into LOM equipment strategies, asset capability assessments, and risk-based maintenance plans.
- Provide leadership and oversight for mechanical contributions to capital planning and long-term asset forecasts.
- Approve mechanical engineering specifications and ensure mechanical designs meet Dawson and legislative requirements.
