What You'll Do

As a Horticulturist, you'll play an important role in the care, development, curation and conservation of RBGV's living plant collections and garden areas. The role involves applying horticultural expertise across plant selection, growing environments, plant performance, landscape presentation and Integrated Pest Management (IPM), while contributing to landscape development projects and identifying opportunities for continual improvement across the Gardens. Working closely with the Team Leader, Landscape Architect and Senior Curator Horticulture, the position contributes to collection management and horticultural planning, maintains accurate plant and collection records,



and monitors and maintains irrigation systems. Through collaboration with colleagues across RBGV, the role will help maintain safe, well-presented garden areas and contribute to the high standards of horticultural excellence for which the Gardens are recognised.

What You'll Bring

You'll bring a relevant horticultural qualification or equivalent experience, with demonstrated experience in large gardens, botanic gardens or similar environments. Strong knowledge of horticultural practices, plant identification, collection curation and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is essential, along with experience maintaining plant records, implementing planting schemes and working with irrigation systems. A Farm Chemical Users Course or Agricultural Chemical Users Permit and experience safely operating horticultural machinery and equipment are required. Strong communication and customer service skills, sound digital literacy, and the ability to work collaboratively and support apprentices, volunteers and colleagues are also important.
