About the prospect

The Medical Workforce Unit (MWU) manages end to end key aspects of medical staff employment and administration of Mercy Health's Junior and Senior Medical Staff. The unit consists of dedicated Senior and Junior Medical Workforce teams located across our Werribee and Heidelberg campuses, working in close partnership with Unit Heads, Clinical Services and Program Directors. Mercy Health also supports Mercy Health Albury and Mercy Care Centre Young in regional NSW.

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer , the Director, Medical Workforce Unit leads and oversees all aspects of medical workforce management across junior and senior medical staff, including:

- workforce planning and governance
- recruitment, contracting and onboarding
- credentialing, scope of practice and compliance
- rostering, leave planning and workforce efficiency
- financial stewardship, payroll accuracy and cost management
- digital optimisation and workforce systems transformation

What you'll do

- Provide strategic leadership and governance of the Medical Workforce Unit across two major acute campuses
- Lead end‑to‑end medical workforce operations for Doctors in Training and Senior Medical Staff.
- Drive contemporary workforce planning and modelling to support service growth, accreditation and training pipelines.
- Ensure compliance with industrial agreements, regulatory requirements and credentialing standards.
- Strengthen rostering, leave planning and workforce efficiency to support wellbeing and financial sustainability.
- Oversee MWU budgets, establishment, workforce analysis and cost risk management.
- Contribute to continuous improvement,



including process reviews and system enhancements during a period of organisational change.
- Build visible, strong, trusted relationships with senior clinicians, executive leaders and external stakeholders.
- Develop capability, culture and succession within the MWU team.
- Assist with workforce reporting and insights, including FTE, vacancies, overtime, leave, roster fill and locum utilisation.
- Have the flexibility to travel as required between the Victorian campuses

- Excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem solve.
- A relevant tertiary qualification (health, business, HR or similar) or extensive senior experience in medical workforce leadership within an acute health service.
- Demonstrated leadership of a complex workforce function, including team leadership and change management.
- Strong understanding of junior and senior medical employment frameworks and industrial instruments.
- Experience in credentialing, scope of practice, accreditation and regulatory compliance.
- Proven capability in workforce planning, rostering governance and financial stewardship.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with workforce, payroll and rostering systems.
- The ability to build trusted relationships and influence across clinical, corporate and external stakeholders.
