We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Victoria. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing mechanical designs, preparing engineering documentation, supporting manufacturing and installation activities, and ensuring projects meet relevant Australian standards, quality requirements, budget and schedule expectations.

This role is suited to an engineer who enjoys taking projects from concept and detailed design through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop mechanical designs and engineering solutions from concept through to detailed design.
- Prepare and review 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies and engineering documentation.
- Produce detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings, including tolerances, dimensions, materials and specifications.
- Undertake engineering calculations, design checks and component selection.
- Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications and technical documentation.
- Work closely with manufacturing, fabrication, procurement and project teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
- Review designs for manufacturability, assembly, installation, maintenance and safety.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors and clients on technical and design matters.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and project meetings.
- Provide engineering support during manufacturing, installation, testing and commissioning.
- Investigate design issues and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
- Ensure engineering work complies with relevant Australian Standards, codes, regulations and company procedures.
- Assist with continuous improvement of engineering and design processes.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure drawings and documentation are controlled and up to date.

Essential Skills & Experience




- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical design engineering.
- Strong experience with 3D CAD and 2D drafting software, such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD or equivalent.
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, manufacturing processes and fabrication.
- Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of engineering tolerances, GD&T; and design-for-manufacture principles.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Desirable Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:
- Industrial machinery and equipment design
- Structural and fabricated mechanical components
- Conveyors and material-handling equipment
- Pressure equipment or piping systems
- Automotive or manufacturing equipment
- Mining, construction or heavy industry
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Design for CNC machining, laser cutting, bending and fabrication
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Engineering change management and document control
- Project-based engineering and equipment commissioning

Software Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
- SolidWorks
- Autodesk Inventor
- AutoCAD
- Revit
- Fusion 360
- ANSYS or other FEA software
- Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365
- ERP, PLM or engineering document-management systems

Australian Standards & Compliance The successful candidate should have an understanding of relevant Australian engineering standards and regulatory requirements applicable to mechanical design and the company's industry. Familiarity with standards such as AS 1219, AS 1100, AS/NZS 4024 and other applicable standards will be advantageous. Pay: $70,818.73 – $141,741.77 per year
