About Us:

Established in 1965, Wallis Drilling provides a diverse range of drilling services for exploration and mining projects. As part of the business, we also operate a comprehensive maintenance and inhouse design & manufacture facility at our main base at Hazelmere in Perth. Along with fleet repairs and modifications we also design and manufacture bespoke drilling rigs & associated equipment for our contract business.

We take pride in building some of the most innovative semi-autonomous drill rigs and support equipment available in the industry.

As part of our in-house design team, incorporating mechanical, mechatronic, and software design capability and a new purpose-built manufacturing facility that features fabrication, machining and fitting capability you will be provided with the opportunity to create solutions, see these ideas through the build process, commissioning then finally operating in the field.

The Role

We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Design Engineer to produce manufacturing drawings and supporting documents for manufactured components and equipment. Also providing technical support required by Wallis Drilling operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

- Participate in technical discussions and meetings.

- Provide input into research and development.

- Design and produce working drawings to manufacturing specifications.

- Carry out engineering calculations to verify design.

- Allocate drawing numbers,



control and up-date electronic drawings register, in conjunction with Senior Design Engineer (SDE).

- Conduct research, as necessary, to support engineering decisions and directions.

- Liaise with manufacturing personnel.

- Liaise with supplier’s technical and sales representatives.

- Follow the IMS policies and operating procedures.

- Report daily to the Senior Design Engineer (SDE).

Minimum Requirements

- Possess a high level of technical knowledge and techniques within the Mechanical engineering field of work.

- Hold a tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering.

- Demonstrate strong drafting skills utilising CAD software and be conversant with 3D applications.

- Be conversant with the use of analysis software to validate mechanical designs.

- Work effectively in a small team setting.

- Be physically fit and healthy in accordance with demands of the role (pass medical testing and ongoing/random D&A;).

Candidates with at least a couple of years of industry experience in a similar role are preferred. Engineering graduates will also be considered if they are highly motivated and can demonstrate projects that highlight developing mechanical design skills.
