Merchandise Analyst & Promotions Coordinator

About the opportunity Virtue Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a client for a Merchandise Analyst & Promotions Coordinator to join its sales team. Combining sales analysis, forecasting and retail promotional coordination, this role offers the prospect to see how your work influences commercial decisions, production planning and customer growth.
You’ll work directly with the Sales Manager in a small, hands-on team where curiosity, initiative and collaboration are valued.
What you’ll be doing
- Analyse sales and market data, including Nielsen scan data and Amazon sales reports, to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Maintain sales forecasts and support sales budgeting, working with operations to inform production planning.
- Prepare insights for retailer category reviews and customer development discussions.
- Coordinate promotional plans with retailers and wholesalers, primarily Coles and Woolworths.
- Maintain promotional calendars, update retailer portals and communicate plans internally and with merchandising partners.
- Review promotional performance and recommend improvements.
- Support the Sales Manager with presentations, product information and day-to-day commercial activities.
About you You enjoy working with numbers and spreadsheets, asking questions and understanding what sits behind a result. You can balance analytical work with accurate administration and follow through on the details.

- Strong Excel skills and confidence interpreting data.
- An analytical mindset, commercial curiosity and a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to discuss findings and recommendations.
- Strong organisation, attention to detail and ownership of your workload.
- A genuine interest in food, retail and the factors that influence sales performance.
- A willingness to learn and contribute within a small team.
Experience in merchandising, promotions, category support, sales analysis or forecasting would be highly relevant. Exposure to Nielsen or IRI data, retailer portals and Pronto would be advantageous. Open to a different pathway?
Candidates from junior account management, internal sales, food ingredients, retail or analytical administration backgrounds are also encouraged to apply. Graduates, including those with food science qualifications, will be considered where they can demonstrate strong analytical and Excel skills and a clear interest in commercial work.
You don’t need experience in every aspect of the role, but you do need practical skills to build on and enthusiasm for the responsibilities involved.
