Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner jobs with Illawarra Therapies are available for experienced practitioners seeking flexible contractor opportunities across Wollongong, the Illawarra and selected areas of southern Sydney. This opportunity is suited to practitioners who can manage an agreed caseload confidently while working within established clinical, administrative and participant management systems.

Contract rate: $120 to $150 per approved billable hour inclusive of any applicable superannuation entitlement, plus GST where applicable.

Location: Wollongong, the Illawarra, the Sutherland Shire and selected areas of southern Sydney.

Engagement: Ongoing contractor opportunity with caseload and geographical coverage agreed around practitioner availability, experience, professional capacity and participant need.

About the Opportunity

Illawarra Therapies is deliberately small and relationship based. We aren’t seeking to build a large contractor network or maximise practitioner numbers. We’re interested in working with experienced practitioners whose professional values align with ours and in developing sustainable caseloads where the practitioner, participant and geographical area are a good fit.

Practitioners work within established Illawarra Therapies systems for participant management, documentation, monitoring, plan implementation, administration and clinical workflow. These systems are designed to reduce unnecessary administrative burden while preserving professional judgement, accountability and genuinely individualised Behaviour Support.

You’ll also have access to established Behaviour Support resources, templates and practical tools which may be adapted to the individual circumstances of participants and their support teams. These resources are intended to support efficient and consistent practice rather than replace professional reasoning.

Clinical discussion and supervision are regarded as an ordinary part of valuable practice. Practitioners are expected to ask questions, discuss complex matters openly and seek guidance where required rather than working in professional isolation.





What We Are Looking For in a Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner

We are seeking experienced Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioners who can work with a high level of professional independence while remaining comfortable with supervision, collaboration and accountability.

Suitable practitioners will ordinarily demonstrate sound Behaviour Support knowledge, strong written communication, careful clinical reasoning, respectful engagement with participants and families and the ability to manage an agreed caseload reliably.

Applicants should be able to develop and review functional behaviour assessments, risk assessments, interim and comprehensive behaviour support plans and associated implementation strategies where required by the participant’s circumstances.

Experience working with regulated restrictive practices, complex risk, multidisciplinary teams, families, schools, support providers and other stakeholders will be valuable.

Practitioners need to be willing to work within Illawarra Therapies systems and practice standards while continuing to exercise appropriate professional judgement and individualise their work for each participant.

We particularly value practitioners who are dependable, clinically curious, reflective, respectful of participant rights and willing to seek supervision when a matter falls outside their experience or requires further consideration.

Requirements and Suitability

Applicants must hold the qualifications, professional standing and other requirements necessary to practise as a Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner within the NDIS environment.



Practitioners must be considered suitable to deliver Behaviour Support services within the requirements of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and should work within the expectations of the Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework.

Practitioners must maintain any registrations, checks, insurances, professional obligations and continuing requirements relevant to their role and mode of engagement. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate appropriate professional indemnity and public liability insurance where required for contractor engagement together with the capacity to work lawfully and independently within the agreed service arrangement.

Illawarra Therapies will consider practitioner experience, capability level, clinical judgement, communication, documentation quality, professional conduct and alignment with participant rights and safeguarding obligations when determining suitability. Formal requirements may vary according to the practitioner’s registration status, capability level and the nature of the proposed caseload.
