Join a Board of exceptional standing Partnerships for Local Action and Community Empowerment (PLACE) is a national not-for-profit that supports community-led approaches to social and economic challenges. PLACE brings government and philanthropic investment together at scale to enable community-led outcomes, and works nationally with communities across every state and territory.

PLACE is now moving from establishment and early traction into deeper delivery, in parallel with the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer. The Board is deliberately expanding beyond the constitutional minimum of five Directors. This is a capability-led appointment.

The chance

- Join a Board of exceptional standing across public policy, Indigenous affairs, social policy, human rights and public administration.
- Take part in PLACE's defining transition into deeper delivery, alongside the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer.
- Bring specific capability in systems thinking, corporate digitalisation, data sovereignty, safeguarding and operational governance to a Board building for the next chapter.
- Contribute to national policy, funding and commissioning influence, informed by evidence drawn directly from community experience.

What you bring

- Substantive corporate experience in IT strategy, data management, or the responsible adoption of technology at scale, in a regulated or public-facing setting.
- Practical understanding of data sovereignty and safeguarding in community-facing settings, including record management, privacy, and the sensitivities of holding data on behalf of communities.
- Experience shaping business systems,



governance frameworks and decision-support tools that let an organisation scale while maintaining compliance and quality.
- Governance craft: experienced Non-Executive Director or senior executive with proven ability to hold the governance-operations line.
- Sound judgement in ambiguity, the capacity to hold competing stakeholder interests, and stakeholder credibility across community, government and philanthropic audiences.
- A relational, grounded style, comfortable in a governance boardroom and in the practical reality of community-facing work.

Who this role is for This role is for an experienced director at the midpoint or end of career, with consolidated corporate and governance experience. The Board is deliberately building national reach, and welcomes candidates based in — or with substantive experience across — South Australia, the Northern Territory, Tasmania or Far North Queensland.

Practical details

- Director fee $22,915.44 (FY26/27), reviewed annually.
- Two- to three-year term, subject to Member approval at PLACE's AGM on 6 November 2026, and to Constitution tenure limits.
- Approximately five Board meetings a year plus AGM, held virtually, with at least one in-person meeting and a two-day Board retreat.
- Directors are covered by PLACE's Directors and Officers insurance; travel to in-person meetings is supported
