About the role

Hastings Optical is seeking a dedicated and skilled Optical Dispenser - Mechanic to join our team in Hastings, VIC. This is a full-time position based at our Hastings location. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical fabrication, adjustment, and repair of eyewear, whilst also providing expert dispensing services to our valued customers.

As an Optical Dispenser - Mechanic, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that our clients receive perfectly fitted and functioning optical products that enhance their vision and quality of life. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with customer-facing service delivery, making it integral to the success of our optical practice.

Key responsibilities

- Fabricating, adjusting, and repairing eyewear including frames, lenses, and associated optical components
- Performing precision lens cutting, edging, and fitting to exact specifications using modern optical equipment
- Conducting frame adjustments and repairs to ensure optimal fit and comfort for customers
- Dispensing eyewear to customers with detailed fitting guidance and aftercare instructions
- Taking accurate measurements and recording customer requirements for optical products
- Maintaining detailed records of all dispensing and mechanical work completed
- Ensuring all optical products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements before delivery to customers
- Providing expert advice to customers regarding lens options, frame styles, and optical solutions
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment with proper care of equipment
- Staying current with optical industry standards, best practices,



and new technologies

What we're looking for

- A qualification in Optical Dispensing or Optical Mechanics (such as a Certificate III or IV in Optical Dispensing or equivalent industry recognised qualification)
- Proven experience working as an Optical Dispenser or Optical Mechanic in a professional optical practice
- Strong technical proficiency with optical equipment, lens cutting machines, frame adjustment tools, and related workshop machinery
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in all mechanical and dispensing work
- Sound knowledge of lens types, frame materials, optical principles, and fitting techniques
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with customers
- The ability to work efficiently and accurately in a rapid-paced environment
- Commitment to maintaining health and safety standards in the workplace
- Reliability, professionalism, and a genuine passion for optical services
- Preferred: Experience with digital lens measuring systems and contemporary optical dispensing software
