The ASIS First Assistant Director-General Operations, is responsible for the conduct of effective operations across a Headquarters-based Division. It is a high-level and high profile strategic position that contributes significantly to the management and leadership of ASIS.

AIS is Australia's foreign intelligence collection agency. We collect and distribute secret foreign intelligence, information which would be otherwise unavailable to Australia, to protect Australia and its interests.

We obtain this intelligence from foreign sources, outside Australia's borders. To do this, we rely on what we call "human intelligence" - information that comes directly from people.
