Compliance Officer / Paralegal – In-House

About the Role

Working closely with the Legal & Compliance leadership team, you will play an important role in managing product liability matters, Fair Trading complaints, consumer tribunal cases and supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the organisation's compliance program.

This is a varied role that combines legal administration, compliance, consumer law, privacy and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage and maintain product liability claims registers and databases

- Assess product liability claims and assist with responses and settlements

- Administer self-insured claims and liaise with insurers and loss adjusters

- Act as a key contact for product liability matters

- Monitor reportable safety matters and elevate issues where required

- Manage Fair Trading complaints and liaise with relevant regulators





- Prepare submissions and documentation for Consumer Tribunal matters

- Represent the organisation at Tribunal case conferences and hearings

- Assist with Australian Consumer Law, privacy and information security compliance

- Support annual compliance risk assessments and identify potential compliance risks

- Assist with developing and implementing corrective action plans

- Prepare reports and information for Compliance and Information Security Committees

- Assist with compliance training across the business

- Develop, review and update compliance policies, procedures and manuals

- Support privacy-related matters and respond to internal and external compliance enquiries

- Provide general legal and administrative support to the Legal & Compliance team

About You

You will be a highly organised and commercially minded legal professional who can manage multiple matters, work to deadlines and communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have:

- Experience as a Paralegal, Legal Officer or Junior Compliance Officer

- Experience working with Australian Consumer Law and Privacy matters – essential

- Experience with product liability and/or insurance claims

- Exposure to Fair Trading, Consumer Tribunal or other regulatory matters

- Experience preparing legal documentation, submissions or correspondence





- Advocacy or representation experience in Tribunals or similar jurisdictions

- Experience developing or supporting compliance programs, policies and procedures

- Previous experience within a mid-tier or top-tier law firm will be highly regarded

- Corporate/commercial law experience

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills

- Strong organisation and time management skills

- Proficiency across Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

- The ability to deliver compliance training and communicate legal requirements to business stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience

This opportunity would suit a career Paralegal or experienced legal/compliance professional.

You may be legally qualified or have substantial relevant industry experience without being admitted to the Bar.

International legal experience will also be considered, provided your experience has been gained within a common law jurisdiction and you have relevant Australian legal/compliance knowledge.

Eligibility
