About the role

Hughes & Gibson Smash Repairs is seeking an experienced Panel Beater to join our team on a full-time basis at our St Marys, NSW location. This is a hands-on role that plays a crucial part in restoring damaged vehicles to their original condition. As a Panel Beater, you will be responsible for assessing vehicle damage, performing metalwork and panel repairs, and ensuring all work meets our high quality standards.

This role is essential to maintaining our reputation as a trusted automotive repair service provider in the local community.

Key responsibilities

- Assess and evaluate vehicle damage to determine appropriate repair methods and procedures
- Perform panel beating and metalwork to restore vehicles to factory specifications
- Use specialised tools and equipment to remove dents, creases and damage from vehicle panels
- Prepare vehicles and panels for painting by ensuring surfaces are smooth and properly prepared
- Weld panels and components where necessary to restore structural integrity
- Work collaboratively with other tradespeople, including spray painters and mechanics, to ensure quality outcomes
- Maintain a safe and clean workshop environment in compliance with health and safety regulations
- Document repair work accurately and maintain detailed job records
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company standards and customer expectations

What we're looking for

- Trade qualification or extensive experience as a Panel Beater in the automotive industry
- Proficiency with panel beating tools and equipment, including hammers, dollies, welding equipment and pneumatic tools
- Robust knowledge of vehicle construction, panel alignment and damage assessment techniques
- Ability to read and interpret vehicle repair manuals and technical documentation




- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality repairs
- Physical capability to perform repetitive tasks and work in varied positions for extended periods
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Reliability, punctuality and a professional approach to health and safety in the workplace
- Experience with modern vehicle repair systems and technologies is advantageous
- Current driver's licence is preferred
