Heavy Vehicle Parts Manager
TRUCKS | MINING | FLEET | WORKSHOP
Flex Industries - Kwinana, Perth WA A senior, hands-on leadership role for a proven heavy-vehicle parts professional who can lead people, solve problems, grow sales and take commercial ownership of a Parts Department.
The Opportunity
Flex Industries is a growing Western Australian heavy vehicle and mechanical service business providing parts, repairs and maintenance solutions across the transport, mining, industrial and commercial sectors. We are seeking a proven Heavy Vehicle Parts Manager to take ownership of our Kwinana Parts Department. We are looking for someone who has already demonstrated their ability to successfully run, lead or carry substantial responsibility within a heavy-vehicle parts operation - someone who understands the industry from the ground up and can contribute from day one.
This is not a stock-control or order-processing management role. The successful person will be expected to lead the team, support our workshop, develop customers, manage suppliers and inventory, protect margin and take genuine commercial ownership of the department.
What You Will Own
• Lead the day-to-day operation and performance of the Parts Department, setting clear standards, priorities and accountability.
- Lead, develop and support Parts staff while maintaining a professional, organised and customer-focused department.
- Provide high-level parts interpretation across trucks, trailers and associated equipment, including difficult or specialised parts identification.
- Ensure workshop parts requirements are identified, sourced, ordered and allocated accurately to minimise delays and equipment downtime.
- Manage retail, trade, fleet and mining customer requirements, including urgent and specialised supply needs.
- Develop external Parts sales by building relationships with transport operators, fleets, mining businesses, workshops and trade customers.
- Prepare and follow up quotations and actively convert sales opportunities rather than waiting for business to come through the door.
- Manage supplier relationships, purchasing, pricing and delivery performance, including negotiating commercial outcomes where appropriate.
- Manage inventory as a commercial asset, balancing availability against stock investment, stock turns, ageing, obsolescence and stock accuracy.
- Monitor back orders and outstanding requirements and drive suppliers for solutions where delays may affect customers or workshop productivity.
- Take responsibility for Parts sales, gross profit, margins, purchasing costs, stock performance and agreed departmental budgets and KPIs.
- Identify opportunities to introduce new products,
suppliers and supply solutions that improve customer service and departmental profitability.
- Work closely with Workshop, Service and management so the Parts Department supports the wider business effectively. The Experience We Are Looking For
This is a senior appointment. We are looking for demonstrated experience, not simply someone looking to take the next step into management.
- Proven heavy-vehicle parts experience at Parts Manager, senior Parts Supervisor or equivalent level, with substantial responsibility for department performance.
- Demonstrated leadership of people, including setting expectations, developing staff and addressing performance when required.
- Strong truck and trailer parts interpretation skills and the ability to confidently identify components when the answer is not immediately obvious.
- Experience supporting workshop operations and understanding the importance of parts availability, planning and minimising vehicle downtime.
- Commercial experience across parts sales, gross profit, pricing, margins, purchasing and inventory management.
- Demonstrated ability to build customer relationships and develop new or additional Parts business.
- Experience managing suppliers, sourcing alternatives and negotiating pricing and supply outcomes.
- Good computer literacy and experience using electronic parts catalogues, inventory/ERP or dealer management systems.
- A track record of taking ownership, following through and producing results without needing constant direction.
Technical & Industry Knowledge
Strong multi-brand heavy-vehicle knowledge is important. Experience with European truck platforms is particularly valuable, including Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, DAF, Iveco and Renault, together with exposure to Mack, UD and other major heavy-vehicle brands. Knowledge across engines and driveline, braking, suspension and steering, electrical, air and hydraulic systems, trailers and trailer components will be highly regarded.
Highly Regarded
• Experience supporting mining fleets or mining-related customers.
- A heavy-vehicle mechanical or technical background.
- Existing transport, fleet, mining, supplier or industry relationships.
- Experience improving the commercial performance of a Parts Department.
- Experience managing ageing and obsolete stock, stock accuracy and stock take processes.
- Light commercial or light-vehicle parts experience.
What Success Looks Like
The right person will not simply maintain the department. They will understand the numbers, know their customers and suppliers, set standards for the team and continually look for ways to improve service, sales and profitability.
- Customers and technicians receive accurate parts support and clear communication.
- Scheduled workshop work is planned ahead and parts-related delays are actively reduced.
- Stock is accurate, commercially appropriate and actively managed.
- Margins and pricing are controlled rather than left to chance.
- Quotes and sales opportunities are followed through.
- The team understands what is expected and is held accountable.
- External Parts sales and customer relationships continue to grow.
- The department delivers against agreed sales, gross-profit and operational targets.
Why Flex Industries?
This is a genuine opportunity to take ownership of a key department within an established and growing WA heavy-vehicle business. The role works across retail, trade, mining, fleet and workshop operations, giving the right person the chance to influence how the department operates and how it grows.
- A stable, long-term senior position within the business.
- The opportunity to lead and shape the Parts Department rather than simply administer it.
- Direct involvement with customers, suppliers, workshop operations and management.
- The ability to build the customer base, strengthen supplier relationships and improve commercial performance.
- A competitive salary package based on the experience and capability you bring to the role.
Before You Apply
We are deliberately looking for an experienced heavy-vehicle Parts professional with a proven track record. If your experience has primarily been at Parts Interpreter level without meaningful leadership and commercial responsibility, this is unlikely to be the right role at this stage. If you have successfully led a heavy-vehicle Parts operation, or have held substantial responsibility for one, we would like to hear from you.
Please submit your CV together with a brief summary covering:
- The heavy-vehicle Parts operations you have previously managed or held senior responsibility for.
- The vehicle brands and customer sectors you have supported.
- The size of the team or department you have led.
- Your level of responsibility for sales, gross profit, purchasing and inventory.
- An example of how you have improved sales, profitability, stock performance, customer service or department performance.
Applications that clearly demonstrate relevant heavy-vehicle Parts leadership and commercial experience will be prioritised.
