Apprentice Gardeners – Garden Maintenance & Renovation

Van Leeuwen Green is looking for Full‑Time Apprentice Gardeners to join our Garden Maintenance and Garden Renovation teams.

Whether you’re just starting your apprenticeship, already partway through, or looking for a career change as a mature‑age apprentice, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

Depending on the position, you’ll primarily work within either our Garden Maintenance Team or Garden Renovation Team, with opportunities to gain experience across different areas of the business as required.

You’ll receive hands‑on training and work alongside experienced Team Leaders who will help you develop your practical skills and horticultural knowledge throughout your apprenticeship.

There may also be opportunities to work across both teams, giving you exposure to different areas of horticulture and helping you build a broad range of practical skills.

Key Responsibilities

As part of our Garden Maintenance Team, your day‑to‑day work may include:

- General garden maintenance and plant care
- Pruning, hedging and shaping
- Planting and garden bed preparation
- Soil improvement and mulching
- Lawn care and general horticultural work
- Learning plant identification, correct horticultural techniques and equipment use

As part of our Garden Renovation Team, your day‑to‑day work may include:

- Garden rejuvenations and improvements
- Removal and replacement of plants
- Planting and garden bed preparation
- Soil preparation and improvement
- Mulching and garden establishment
- Turf renovations and lawn improvements
- Installing irrigation and garden lighting
- Installing steel edging and other garden edging
- Assisting with small landscaping and garden improvement projects




- Learning plant identification, correct horticultural techniques and equipment use

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

- Has a genuine interest in gardening, plants and horticulture
- Enjoys working outdoors and being physically active
- Is reliable, punctual and has a robust work ethic
- Is keen to learn and develop new skills
- Works well as part of a team
- Takes pride in their work and presentation
- Has good communication skills
- Holds a current Australian driver’s licence or is working towards obtaining one
- Has previous gardening, landscaping or outdoor work experience – this is a bonus, but definitely not essential

First‑year, existing and mature‑age apprentices are all encouraged to apply.

Where You’ll Work

Most of our work is based across Melbourne’s inner south‑east, including Toorak, South Yarra, Malvern, Hawthorn, Camberwell, Bayside, St Kilda, Elwood and surrounding suburbs.
