To provide support to the Microbiology Division by providing assistance to health practitioner staff and administrative staff. This position reports to the Chief Scientist, Microbiology and operates across a roster that includes day, afternoon and weekend shifts. If you are organised, reliable and enjoy working as part of a busy laboratory team, this is an opportunity to play an important role supporting the delivery of microbiology services at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

This appointment is for a shift roster including day, afternoon and Weekend shifts.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

- Perform a diverse range of tasks in the Microbiology Specimen Reception area to a consistently high standard in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
- Demonstrated operational knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge in relation to specimen processing and preparation within the Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology Pathology Queensland laboratory
- Demonstrated word processing skills, and computer data input and retrieval skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team independently and at times without direct supervision.
- Be proficient in the use of laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, cytospin, staining machine).
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills.
