Peer Support Worker - headspace Southport
Part-Time Ongoing Position
3 Days Per Week | Tuesday and Thursday Required | third day flexible
$80,020 - $85,797 (Pro Rata) + Super + Salary Packaging

At Lives Lived Well, we help people live their lives well. As one of Australia's leading community-based health and wellbeing organisations, we support people experiencing challenges with mental health, alcohol and other drugs, gambling and wellbeing.
We're seeking a passionate Peer Support Worker to join our headspace Southport team.
Drawing on your own lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, you'll provide hope, encouragement and meaningful peer support to young people accessing the service. By sharing your recovery journey appropriately and building genuine connections, you'll help young people feel understood, empowered and supported in achieving their goals.
About the Role
As a Peer Support Worker, you will work alongside clinicians and the broader multidisciplinary team to support young people engaged with headspace Southport.
Using your lived experience of mental health recovery, you'll help young people build confidence, strengthen self-advocacy, develop wellbeing strategies and increase their connection to the people, services and activities that matter most to them.
This is a part-time position working 3 days per week, with Tuesday and Thursday being essential working days. Flexibility is available regarding the third day.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide peer support to young people accessing the service.
- Draw on your lived experience to instil hope and support recovery.
- Build genuine and supportive relationships with young people.
- Support young people to identify strengths, goals and opportunities.
- Facilitate engagement in activities that support wellbeing and recovery.
- Facilitate peer-led group activities and group discussions that promote wellbeing, connection and recovery.
- Work collaboratively with clinicians and multidisciplinary team members.
- Promote self-advocacy, empowerment and social connection.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Contribute to a positive, recovery-oriented team culture.
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, with the ability to use that experience purposefully to support others.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people experiencing mental health challenges.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A recovery-oriented, strengths-based and person-centred approach.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational and documentation skills.
- A commitment to child safety, cultural safety and inclusive practice.
- Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check), or the ability to obtain one.
- Current National Police Check, or the ability to obtain one.
- Current Queensland Driver Licence.
Highly Regarded
- Previous experience in a peer workforce role.
- Mental Health Peer Work training or a willingness to undertake training.
- Experience working with young people.
- Experience in community services,
mental health or wellbeing settings.
Working Hours This position is worked across three days per week, with Tuesday and Thursday being essential working days. Employees may work either 8:00am to 4:00pm or 9:00am to 5:00pm, with flexibility regarding the third working day.
