PARISH OF SOUTH YARRA Permanent Part-Time | 40 hours per fortnight | South Yarra, Melbourne n

The Parish of South Yarra, under the pastoral care of the Augustinians, is seeking a warm, committed and organised Pastoral Worker to support the pastoral, liturgical, sacramental and community life of the Parish.

n

This is a permanent part-time position of 40 hours per fortnight, with flexible working arrangements. Some evening and weekend availability will be required, including up to approximately four (4) hours on weekends depending on parish activities and pastoral needs.

About the Role n

Working closely with the Parish Priest, parish staff, volunteers and parishioners, the Pastoral Worker will help foster an inclusive, welcoming and faith-filled parish community consistent with the Catholic ethos and Augustinian character of the Parish.

- Provide pastoral care and visitation to housebound, elderly and other parishioners requiring support.
n
- Assist with pastoral care for parishioners in aged-care facilities and support families experiencing bereavement.
n
- Support the preparation and coordination of parish liturgies and significant celebrations, including Christmas and Easter.
n
- Assist with liturgical ministries and rosters.
n
- Participate in Parish Liturgy Meetings and attend Parish Pastoral Council meetings as required.
n
- Assist with parish sacramental and faith formation programs, including RCIA and the Children's Sacramental Program.
n
- Support parish safeguarding requirements and promote compliance with relevant safeguarding policies and procedures.
n
- Welcome and engage parishioners and support parish volunteers and ministries.
n
- Coordinate and/or complete required music copyright reporting.
n
- Maintain appropriate pastoral and ministry records and assist with related parish administration and reporting.

- Support other pastoral and community activities of the Parish as required.

About You n

We are looking for someone who brings a genuine commitment to pastoral ministry and enjoys working with people and building community.

- Experience, formation and/or training in Catholic pastoral ministry, theology, faith formation or a related area.
n
- A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the teachings, mission and values of the Catholic Church.
n
- A willingness to support the Catholic and Augustinian ethos and character of the Parish.
n
- Strong interpersonal and pastoral skills and the ability to relate sensitively to people from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances.
n
- A compassionate approach to people experiencing illness, bereavement, isolation or other challenges.
n
- Valuable organisational, communication and administrative skills.
n
- The ability to work independently while also contributing collaboratively as part of a parish team.
n
- Experience working with parishioners, volunteers or community groups.
n
- An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within a parish or community environment.
n
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends according to parish needs.
n

Employment Requirements n

The successful applicant must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or otherwise hold unrestricted/full working rights in Australia.

n

A current Working with Children Check (Employment) and satisfactory Police Check will be required, together with compliance with applicable Parish and Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne safeguarding policies and requirements.

Hours and Remuneration n

This is a permanent part-time position of 40 hours per fortnight. Hours are flexible and will be arranged in consultation with the Parish Priest. The position may require up to approximately four (4) hours of work on weekends, together with occasional evening attendance for parish meetings or activities.

Remuneration: In accordance with the applicable Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne employment arrangements for Pastoral Workers, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
