Band 5 - Salary Range $81,006.12 to $93,280 per annum + 12% Super + ADO

The Prospect

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Melton City Council for an energetic and self-motivated person to assume the role of Debt Collection Officer at one of the fastest growing and exciting regions in Australia.

This position will undertake Council’s revenue debt recovery function and take necessary action to reduce Councils debt and negotiate suitable payment arrangements.

Key Responsibilities





- Ensure that all rate accounts in arrears are followed up with a reminder notice in accordance with the current policies and practices also not limited simply by standards, procedures.
- Initiate legal action when required in accordance with the current policies and practices and liaise with Council’s debt collectors in the recovery process, with regular reporting.
- Process Financial Hardship Applications in a timely manner and to recommend appropriate actions and write-offs for Manager Finance’s approval of such action.
- Pay invoices from service providers, not limited simply by standards and procedures.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

- Tertiary qualification in administration, finance, revenue or a related discipline with little or no relevant work experience; or a lesser formal qualification with relevant debt recovery experience.
- Excellent knowledge of revenue collection policies and regulations relating to local government also understanding of the underlying principles involved as distinct from the practices.
- Demonstrated experience in the administration and follow up of accounts in arrears, including undertaking debt recovery action and referring matters for legal action when necessary.
